The problem is that there aren't enough auction sites to make that a worthwhile service to offer.

I searched for NZ auction sites and even though there are about 2 dozen listed, about half of them aren't working any more, and half of the rest don't have a huge number of members or else look very amateurish. Sella and Wheedle is/were respectively the only two professional-looking ones, besides TM. Buyers now are also interested in collective buying like with the Groupon type sites...

The site that breaks TradeMe may be more of a "portal" than an actual site.

So you login to "alltrade.com", and it accesses your membership or creates you one if you don't have one, at trademe, ebay, sella, wheedle etc.

So if you are looking to buy a motorcycle, it displays listings from ALL the sites you are subscribed to.

You can bid without every leaving the portal site, indeed if it were well done, after a while you wont even care if it was originally a TM or sella listing..

The cunning bit is when you list an item. Its listed and hosted at "alltrade.com".

    Job done.
I've been involved in that sort of carry on before... in the end it very quickly became two teams competing against each other, costing each company (the first trying to protect their data, the second stealing it) $150k a month. (actually not quite true, the people trying to protect their data were paying more than that, and losing).

Anyone else experience this little money grabbing thing Trademe has been doing? They promote free gallery listings for $1 reserves. They get 50% off that $1 (if it sells for $1), but when it doesn't sell the promotion ends. So unless you knew they were doing this, clicking relist then bills you $0.55 for a gallery listing.

I reckon the one where you can re-list the next three times for free if your item doesn't sell is at last a good option for sellers. They don't seem t offer it any more though...
