Mid sized sports bike 400 cc - 600 cc (NC30 would be nice!)

    Hey there guys,

I recently got my full licence and I am currently looking to buy a bike. I am after something fun, that'll give me a good time through the twisties but isn't too powerful. I am coming from a 250 and would rather have an intermediary step (400cc - 600cc) for a few years before going for something that has more power than I will ever use.
I have been looking at quite a few bikes, but the ones I really want tend to be a little outside my price range. I'd like an early to mid 00's R6 or ZX6R and would look at increasing my budget to 5k if I could find a decent one of these in good nick. I've seen them around for that kind of price in the past, but generally people seem to want a bit more.

If I can't find one of those, I was thinking that a VFR400 (or RVF400) would be a good, fun option to look at instead. I'd be wanting to spend around $3k for one of those in decent condition.

I'm not particularly worried about cosmetic condition, don't mind if it's been for a slide and has messy plastic, I am more interested in a good service history and a mechanically sound bike.

If you have anything you think I may be interested in, or know of anything please let me know!

    Thanks.

Many 400s are near useless, not much more power than the 250s and uses as much if not more petrol! At least they're more comfortable than 250s to sit on...

I've jumped from 250 to 750 and it doesn't feel like it's been that big a jump; handling and all that is the same, just be stingy with twisting the throttle initially until you get used to it (although I am a nanna rider anyway - 150kph is the fastest I've ever gone so far).

    Pretty much this.

Also, you might need to lower your standards a bit. A good nic mid 00s (assuming you mean something like 05-06) zx6r/r6 is gonna run you nearer to 8k rather then 5k. You might be able to find a decent VFR for 5k though.
