Thumbs up Mihi - Bridgestone Winter Series Round 5

After a bit of a dissappointing round 4 I was keen to get out there and do the buisness. I read notes that I have on the track during the week before round 5 inbertween study, I felt more prepared to pick up where I left off and go hard. A 4.00am start is not the ideal hour to wake up for a teenager.. but its still easier then getting up for school.

Streetstock/250 production/250 minilite was up first for the weekend and it was looking like a promising day.

    Saturday
    Qualifying
I was focused and went out behind Zane Burrell (#103) my main competiton in the points. We had a llittle battle during qualifying and came in knowing our times would be close I felt really comfortable and relaxed out on the track, our laptimes were only .1 of a second different and I qualified with a 1.36 that put me on 9th on the grid.

    Race 1
My start supprised me and was good, I kept up with the field through turn one and was going better then before. I kept my head down and locked on to the bikes ahead of me which was Ben Carter (#66 minilite) and Zane Burrell (#103 streetstock) I stuck behind them and we battled for the whole race. It was fun to be battling with someone pushing each other to go faster and needing to think fast for gaps that will appear to use for good passes, I crossed the line infront of Ben but behind Zane with a 1.33.6 a new P.B already by 1 second. Pretty stoked.

    Race 2
My start wasn't as good as the last but I just had to move on I pulled to the outside of the track and took a wide line around turn one to keep as much speed as I could. I caught up to Ben Carter and Steven Gregg (#11 streetstock). I battled with Steven for a lap or two then pulled ahead and battled with Ben for a couple of laps before I pulled a reasonable gap and finished infront of them both with a 1.33.4. I felt really comfortable on the bike and was in the right head space to improve even more.

    Race 3
I always feel way to relaxed and not motivated enough after lunch. My start was great and was battling with a different person that I havent seen here before, Warwick Torr (#13 minilite). I found it hard to get past him as he would change his line every lap and was unpredictable during a corner then would blast me down a straight. I felt not as fast this time and crossed the line with a 1.34. It didnt go as well as I hoped but I finished and still had fun

    Sunday
We had a 3 lap practise session which I used to get my head back in it after a hard night sleeping. I know its a difficult life racing, sleeping, then getting up to race again.
today was two 12 lap races, I dunno how us older people were going to manage

    Race 4
I got a good start and was with the field I had my goals for the race and put my head down to achieve them. I was feeling better and better during the race. I was behind Warwick again and made a pass on him through the hair pin on the inside as he was quite wide, on the exit he didn't speed up like I expected him to and I kept my line on the inside of the straight.. he cut across the track and I had to back off when he hit my front tyre on the straight. This unsettled me a bit but he went off ahead. I caught up to Steven Gregg and tucked in behind him, we battled for the whole race I passed him going into Higgins on the last lap then hit the deck.. I was so guttered! But I got a new PB of 1.32.1, I focused on the positives of the race to not get myself down before the last race.
The bike was repaired and ready to go out for the final race.

    Race 5
Well I was pumped, I got off the line well (again) and HAD to beat Steven, I was determined to otherwise he will never let it go. I sat behind him for a little bit then madde my move going down the middle straight into Higgins, he got passed in dunlop on the next lap but I got him again into Higgins but this time I stayed infront for the rest of the race. I felt really good with the race and to battle with someone and be in amongst it was fun. I finished infront of him with a best time of 1.32.8.

Overall I was really happy with my weekend, it had big down but big ups aswel. Im happy with my new PB and doing consistant 1.32s by the end of the weekend, there is only 5 points between Zane and I for 3rd in the series overall after my crash, it should make for some good racing at the final round in Taupo.

Great report. The highlight for me was how you bounced back from the crash (pun intended). The whole weekend you were focussed on getting the best out of yourself and the bike. Like a Boss GirrlRacer. You had some great battles with Scracha too.
