    Scooter brakes?

Been reading a review of scooters on a NZ website, Quite neat and plenty of humour thrown in.

Most of the 50cc scooters get the lack of performance mentioned, then bemoans the lack of a disc brake on various models.

I've had stuff all time on a 50, but I would've thought, a decent drum brake would suffice for most situations.

Yes, I know that when faced with having to stop as quick as possible, a disc brake is probably better than a drum brake, ( just answered my own query ), but for normal riding is the lack of a disc brake really an issue?

Haven ridden many a scooter, yes it is. Often you need to use both front and back brakes routinely.

When you think about it, on an 8"/10" front wheel, there isn't much scope for a large drum shoe surface. So a disc would be more effective.

From experience I'd say you really want disk brakes. Rode a drum brake scooter and didn't feel safe at all. Also on my own scooter my main stopping ability is in my front disk brake, and my rear drum brake is highly ineffective

P.s disk & drum brake on 50cc doing 80km/h (yay for hills) Stopped in about.2 seconds without over applying and locking up.

Define "normal" scooter riding ... if it's hooning around the central city area in traffic ... stopping is good. But disc brakes do tend to take a little more time to stop you in the wet. Time you don't have in arms reach (literally) of traffic.

Scooter riding is either full noise or full brake's. To compare scooter riding, with motorcycle riding practices ... is just silly.
