Acerbis tank, has permanently locked cap!

I have a DR650 with a 20-ish liter acerbis tank. I bought it with the acerbis locking cap.
The cap is plastic, and feels a bit flimsy, especially compared to the metal stock cap.

I've got a real dumb question, considering I've only opened the thing once so far (this would be my second fill-up at a gas station)

When you 'lock' it, it basically loosens a joint on the cap so it spins around without catching, so you can't twist it off.
When you 'unlock' it, it tightens the joint, so it catches, and then you can twist it off.

Stopping at the gas station today, I put in the key, spun it around until the cap caught and then I spun, or tried to spin, the top, until I could feel the flimsy plastic twisting under my hands. But it didn't turn at all. Both hands. I don't really want to break the cap to pieces but has anyone else run into this?

It's kind of my commuter bike. I have the other original unlocking cap, so I could just break the damn thing off and replace it, but I'd probably get junk in the tank.

Anyhow thanks. Sometimes i need help putting my pants on in the morning as well.

so my question is; how do i get gas in the tank?

before i unplug the petcock, turn the bike upside down, and use a funnel.
