New(ish) rider in the Tron (arcane12)

    Good day all,

Thought I'd finally get around to introducing myself. Hi my name is Doug, and I like to pretend I can ride a motorbike.

I picked up my learners back in March (booked for my restricted on the 16th), but have been lurking since the start of the year.

I am on a blue one (Yamaha Scorpio), though am looking to move up to a bigger LAMS bike (to help move my ahem, bigger frame, around on the open roads). I commute 40KM each way so swap it up between the bike, car, and car pooling.

Other things I am fond of is computers, craft beer, and parentheses (it is an affliction).

I am looking foward to posting more here, and even perhaps going on the occasional ride.

G'day and welcome mate, there's a few of us tron riders around here.

Be sure to check out the 'laxed out rides' thread as its rides are generally learner friendly.

Welcome Doug, and just keep thinking like that even when you make Speedway Champion of the Year, or best NZ Superbike rider. Some of us forget it now & again, and come unstuck. Unfortunately none of us are infallible or immortal.

    Go Well.

I almost went to the ride on sunday, but just a bit cautious about how far to push the poor little Scorpio. I worry about it every time I ride it to work, but dozens of trips later is has still to skip a beat. It sits at about 7000 revs or so open road, which after 20 minutes straight makes me feel like I'm being mean to it. I keep assuring myself it is a mighty engine and can handle it, and at the back of my mind think about an upgrade to a Boulevard (or similar. A V2 something would be nice, but rather more rare).

DO IT!! There's been a crap load of Scorpio's that come on the rides. Aren't they old school farm bike engines? So they're built like friggin' tanks (which is probably going to jinx it for you now )

A lot of people are against riding in groups, but I think they're more against riding with muppets. I like it personally. Makes the stops more interesting if you've got someone to take the piss out of.
