Is it foolish to think that a XX branddealer would keep stock of a XX brand air filter? keeping in mind they are a common part to multiple bikes?

Depends, if it's an extremely common model, I'd expect it to be in stock (eg: GN250)
If it's not so common, I would expect it to be available overnight
If it's as rare as hens knobs, from an OEM supplier.
Keeping parts on the shelf is not always economically viable.
We do try and keep the more common ones here at all times.
It would seem quite crazy if the XX brand dealer didn't keep their own product in plentiful supply
Unless of course they'd prefer to cease trading![]()
PHEW.....JUST MADE IT............................. UP"
..yep.... rare as hens teeth them bandits.......

Do they normally have them in stock and have just sold more than normal this month or do they not hold stock of them at all ?
Perhaps more dealers would stock the brand parts their dealership has previously held .... if so many people didn't get their stuff off the internet.
More dealers would be open weekends too ...
And all those in dealerships on this site ... will read this thread and laugh their socks off.
They may even give you green bling for making their day ... well done.

Could also be a reflection of how often air filters get changed... No?
Just said that because this thread made me think of the last time i checked mine. Can't remember.
Manopausal.
We didn't laugh our socks off. We simply sold him the part he was after.
The XX brand is over rated![]()
The XXXX is very popular I hear
As stated above, there could be various reasons for an item being out of stock. Suppliers don't always have what we (m/c shops) need, so it's a trickle down effect. Unfortunately it's always when you need it 'Now'.
Buy 2 next time, or pre-order. I know you shouldn't have to, but...
I don't (and never will) see it as "FAULT" ... it is always has been an option with the intent (usually of the buyer) to save money. That option has its downsides .... with the supplier on the other side of the country/world. Wrong part delivered ... or problems with what was delivered, if even if it was not delivered (as stated they would in a set time frame) returns are usually just a big pain in the butt.
Which is why I ALWAYS buy through my local motorcycle dealer. The local one is a 7 day operation (has a service station with fuel sales as part of it) If he stays in business ... (good for him/good for me)
