    Transponders, who wants one?

Looking at the fee for nationals, i think it is about time i got my own transponder.

I can get one brand new for $650 + postage

They are the AMB TranX260 rechargeable ones
Full 14 Hour Charge = 3 Days Running Time
    Included 115VAC / 12 VDC & 12V / 12V Chargers
1 Hour Emergency Charge = 5 Hours Run Time
    LED Battery Condition Indicator
    4" x 2" x 1" with Quick Release Bracket

    Anyone else want one?

Buy the direct power (DP) ones if you can.
They are cheaper, more reliable, no need to worry about recharging and the batteries (cos there are none) don't fail like the rechargable ones do from time to time. AMB will not repair them, you have to find the bloke in Oz who does it in his shed somewhere.
They draw only 400mA so is no problem for any charging or total loss system.
I have been running the same two DP ones on my RS125's for nearly 5 years with no problems at all.
I have them plugged in so that they can be removed. The only thing you need to do is solder all connections, crimping isn't sufficient with the issue of vibrations thrown in.

how much are they to hire at nationals? our club only charges us 20 buck a day.. not that bad.. but I guess should buy one in the long run.

do you not have to buy the same transponder as the club does? or do they all work with each other/cross compatible

edit: motorcycling canterbury members apparently get free transponders at ruapuna round of nats.. not sure bout others doesn't look like it. still be keen to buy my own though

Some of the rounds are $70 transponder hire, so would be worth getting your own one.
The transponders are the same as the club ones, not sure why it gets more expensive to hire at nationals

I got mine (rechargable) thru mylaps last December, cost over $900 by the time the ping you for duty, customs, foreign currency charge, and freight. was pissed about the price for something that sounded cheap from Aussie.

Will get all the pricing breakdown out and post it

    22 Dec 2011 Mylaps B.V. 19 EFTPOS $752.52

    22 Dec 2011 fedex Bill pmt $152.97

22 Dec 2011 Foreign Currency Fee EFTPOS $18.82

That was 2 extra brackets too, think they were only $10 or so each tho

Exchange will be different so will be cheaper but just check on the final "To your door" pricing

CHECK the duty and gst stuff VERY carefully - When I got mine the shipping Co. FEDEX charged import duty I checked with Customs and didn't have to pay it ! It took me ages to get them to refund it ! ( I paid initially because they wouldn't release the package)
Things may have changed but 3 years ago when I bought my Direct Power AMB laptimer from Oz no duty was charged for items under $1000 (it is still going strong even though I have crashed a few times )

Hi scorry, why dont you go to the "South Canterbury Car Club" they have the AMB TranX260 battery or hardwired all the time for sale, the last one i bought off them was 2/4/11 $650 all up.
If you are going to do a lot of raceing its well worth it i have saved well over $1500 in the years i have had mine and will continue to use it for many years to come.
