Reliable engines - Where to buy?

Hey, yesterday my engine blew up at Taupo on my SV650.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXxwF...1&feature=plcp

It's a Pro Twin that I am trying to get prepared to do Nationals. So, where do I go or who do I talk to about getting a reliable SV650 engine? I don't just want to buy a random engine off a random person only do have trouble with it. Any help appreciated.

    Question.
How many Kms has your bike done! Do you now have a hole in the cases just behind the starter motor!

55,000kms. Wow it's like you have seen this happen before....... yes there is a hole right behind the starter motor.

The SV has a genetically weak crank and the heavy flywheel doesnt help. 99% of the time the rod will exit behind the starter.
As i have siad before in my opinion a FRESH SV motor is good for three seasons hard racing before you are sitting on a hand grenade. that is probebly only 5/6000k between full rebuids on a standerd motor.
so at 55000k you are pushing the bounderys even though most of the kms were at road pace.
In my opinion if you want to go Protwin racing get a VERY low km motor from the states and use that. If you want to go Superlite/f3 then talk to glen williams.
I have spoken to a few SV tuners and they all say the same....... STD CRANK will go BANG eventually in a race bike.

Fuck man 55000ks!! Im hardly surprised...

Ill keep an eye out. Hamish is a bloody good rider and possibly a title contender it would be a shame if he missed out on the nationals

Its harder to lose weight than gain horsepower.

Thanks for the help and advice everyone. I have a few options on eBay that I am trying hard to chase up. Won't be cheap though. Thank you for suggesting that engine Buddha, however I need the 2003 - 2012 engine which is different to the older versions.

I had no idea the engine was capable of going bang like that or I would have done something about it before I even rode the damn thing.

from 2008 onward i believe is a twin plug head too( mines a 09 andf its twin plug). The 2005/6 single plug head make the best power.... but finding a low KM that old might be tricky.

Wow I had no idea there was a difference but you're right. That's annoying. Thank you for pointing that out.

Yip crank flywheel weight & the fact that the main bearing shells move sideways at an alarming rate doesnt help. The 03 onward bikes were an interestiing motor, (particularily the 03/04/ & some 05 engines) , they gave the engine an extra 750-1000rpm when they injected it, - but also they waisted out the little end of the conrod at the same time............
Typically front rod snaps just below little end & proceeds to saw engine in half.
Usually the only thing salvageble is clutch & if you are lucky the heads + a few other outside bits.
If buying an injected get the 05/06/07 single plug type.
Mods to gain reliabilty are limited within Pro-Twins, but a close inspection of rods for any faults or replace with new when building up a 2nd hand motor is worth the money IMO.

PM me for any further info.

Would be great to see how reliable a Honda Bros is with double its original hp to match a Sv...........
