Dont take any remarks on here personally, some people just have trouble putting their thoughts diplomatically. Uneducated slobs.
If it rains on your parade, use the umbrella of eternal optimism
Early viffer thou's had nasty cam chain tensioners.
There mechanism would slip n slide against the angled locking plate.
Those who repaired them/replaced them knew how to test it in place for 100% confirmation.
The cam chain will be rooted if the tensioner is at fault.
It is a pain in the arse job if you have no experience, and I would follow bogans advice, and not start it again.
Strip and inspect, good luck.![]()
Bogan is correct.
Like it or not.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........
I wouldnt assume its the tensioner as the vf1000 ones are bigger and stronger than the 750s and caused less issues.
Have you drained and inspected the oil yet.
It could be something easier yet like a piece of clutch basket.
I have evolved as a KB member. Now nothing I say should be taken seriously.
Have had worked on plenty of these and to once again repeat advice already given that most likely it will be cam chains and tensioners. These are as weak on the 1000's as the 750's both give heaps of trouble. New tensioners and chains will be needed. To be the bringer of more bad news they are also prone to knocking out big ends once they get a few km's under there belt.. Once the rocker covers are lifted also check for worn or breaking up cam and follower faces as they also do this, they wear through the hardening on either the cam or follower then destroy the other part. Mr Honda fixed all these problems with the last of the V4 1000's by putting gear cam drive and fixing the oil system on the VF1000R
And if someone turned up at your Dojo insisting repeatedly that you make them a black belt in a week without them putting in the effort you have what would you have to say to them?
In short - these are OK bikes but they had well doccumented issues which have been spelt out. It can be fixed but restarting it every 5 mins aint going to do anything except damage it even more needlessly. There is no magic button on these - they are a complicated engine but it can be done and no - it will not be cheap. Essentially until you fix it then its nearly worthless... I'm sorry, its just the risk with the hugely complex bikes of the period where engineering imagination and excess often outstripped ability.
You will find that if you start to pull it down you will get help here
My point with Bogan was where to start looking ...no good pulling in apart randomnly and my other point was his language I joined this site for some help and advise (which most people have been really helpful) that F word today seems to be a part of everyday talk and some people can find that offensive and un called for. Thanks eveyone else for your advise.
