Recommend a ride north of Auckland

Hi guys, new to the country, and Saturday and Sunday are my first two days to get out and about on the bike.... Where's the 'best ride' North of Auckland? Side roads to Puhoi seem nice, few twisties and awesome scenery etc... Just a 4-5 hour spin is all I'm after, so any suggestions...

I usually do Old North Road from Kumeu to Kaukapakapa and follow State Highway 16 to Wellsford with the compulsory stop at the lookout. From there you can go out to Mangawhai and then back again.

Bit of shitty gravel on the northside of that Matakana hill bit....head out to Mangawhai as per tnargs map....
Or..stay on the seal part of Morts map out to Pakiri....nice trip, but an out an back.
Do both, since you are n the area.

matakana valley? i've just come through there.. nothing shitty about that gravel.. tunnel road - puhoi valley, however, few washouts, heaps of potholes and mostly corrugated..
    (still a sexy ride)
