    17 inch spoked rims?

I'm interested to hear about this.
I'd like to run a 17 front and rear on the Ginny600, just for looks.
Am I correct in saying I can get the outer rim by itself? With the correct number of holes and lace it to my original hubs with sexy new spokes?

Anyone done this kind of this before?

You can buy rims by themselves for sure. Count your spokes, and figure out the lengths you need, and Bob's your uncle.

Yes have done this with the rear rim on the cafe racer standard hub from 18" laced into 17" rim the angles of the spokes needed to be changed and a heavier duty spoke used to allow for the shorten spoke.....your welcome to come and have alook..

That's the stuff. I'm pretty sure most 'tards run too wide a rim on the arse, but I'll have a look on the eBay thing etc and see what's out there

Got to make the fucking thing yet though

I'll have to come have a peek (might run a key down the tank, can't have a Honda looking so much nicer than my shitters)

4 inch will take a 140 section tyre, to a 160 with a bit of roll to it. You're not making something that is going to corner, so whatever floats your boat.

There's more to it than the number of holes and rim size, different rims have the spoke angle drilled different as well depending on the size of the hub they're laced to

There's also different lacing patterns...pretty sure they're like cross2 and cross 3 etc. I'm also fairly sure the rims can take a bit of variation too......I remember lacing an 18" KX125 rim to a TT250 hub years ago....

You'll find you can spend quite a bit on this, rims in nice sizes cost quite a bit. Motard rims are available from no name suppliers quite cheap, but are only an approximation of round which is ok for dirt but would be a drag on a high speed roadbike. Excel or decent brand name is worth the money. Getting someone to relace can cost quite a bit.

It isn't hard to do if you are replacing like with like & you get the knack of it,

-but change-it-up a little as Kick says it can get interesting & you see where the money goes or make mistakes the hard way.
