US Federal safety investigators advise there is a potential fuel-leak issue on older BMW R-Series motorcycles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says the housing around the fuel pump can crack and leak petrol. So far no fires have been reported, but a small number of owners have reported gasoline soaking their legs.

Around 24,000 motorcycles in the US are potentially affected. The years affected are 2005 to 2008.
