I don't want to be negative, and at the risk of teaching my grandmother to suck eggs, I want to share a conversation I had with a professional racecar driver (actually a group of them) last week. I was invited to do one of those "driver safety days" at a racetrack by the sellers of my new car. Supported by the importer, usual format: spend some time going round the track in their demo fleet doing cone slaloms and emergency braking blahdeblah learning about how the car goes and what the safety features do. Then some hot laps with people who can actually drive. You know the drill.

After the thing finished and at the debrief I got to talking to this guy about money and motorsport in NZ. Bear in mind that this is car racing, which is way higher profile than bike racing in this country, and if I can speak generally, it attracts higher net worth individuals more likely to punt up real money to support talent. The obvious exemplar being Colin Giltrap (well into seven figures in any given year), and the group of guys who originally backed Scott Dixon and who now back someone else. The guy I was talking to had been offered a drive in a F3 car next year with some costs covered. He just need to raise the extras. the "extras" was 300000 POUNDS.

My point, and I do have one, is that Shaun's profile, and marketability and reputation, are more highly developed in the UK than here. Might it not be more appropriate to get over to the UK and get hustling, calling on old contacts etc, than doing it here? It strikes me that might be more likely to succeed. Again, bike racers I have talked to are bemoaning sponsor exit, lack of money, cost of competing etc. Usual story but it seems worse lately.

Cheers Tony. there already is a 650 Kawi with my name on it in Ireland for the twins class. I am happy just with that, but would love to land a 600/675 as well, hence the push for a manager to get out there and find a compettive machine for me.

Fantabulous! Your history and story are very marketable. How do you reckon your racing skills have fared?

I will be slower than a bankrupt man paying his creditors untill the flag drops at the TT mate

I need to complete 6 race meetings to obtain what they call a '' Course :License''for the Isle of Man, apart from that, it has now been 13 months since I last raced, and that was only a club race in Aust which I won against modern 600z on a borrowed 2003 STD R6

I now have the TWISTER to ride again at Paeroa next year also, so meetings will be done!

You do NOT need to be a rocket ship on closed tracks to be fast at the TT, you just need to have = Equiptment, Trust yourself, and be prepared to not leave the Island- '' Nothing ventured nothing gained''

The last 2 I Deffinately have, the first one is being discussed this weekend in Liverpool UK
by a good friend and Past Manager of mine from Ireland

I am posting away entries for tri series today, I will be entering the bears class only, and using a friends ( He does not know yet) Used tyres, as I am the Bank rupt man these days.

I've had enough! Shaun, you are advocating a willingness to die for your sport. You are gonna run second hand tyres for the Tri Series.

And yet despite this, are quite often heard to complain about the safety of several of the tracks we race her in New Zealand. This really really really fucks me off. In big part thanks to you, we don't get race the long track at Manfield, even though exiting Dunlop is just as dangerous as rejoining the back straight. You constantly whinge about Pukie. And yet, you're gonna go do your thing, your way.

What gives man, why should we listen to a God damn thing you say?
