    Grant (Yogi) Martin Rip

Yogi was one of the real characters in the New Zealand racing scene in the late 1970's through to the mid 1990's
Seen punting various bikes around the tracks on NZ. later he became famous as one of the best accodian players in the world.
Its truely saddening news to hear he passed away at home on Anzac day.
Rest in peace dude. You will be missed.

To see a life newly created. To watch it grow and prosper. Isn't that the greatest gift a human being can be given?

A mate had an apartment overlooking the V8 track in Hamilton and organised Yogi to play on the Sunday. Looked at him sideways when he told me he had a guy playing piano accordion as entertainment but was blown away. After the racing on Sunday he jammed with a couple of very good musos who played guitar and drums awesome versions of black magic woman and the weight which were randomly requested. Talking afterwards he was telling me of his racing. Was amazed to hear he'd passed away a few days later, a sad loss.

I have only just found this news out. I knew him a long time ago when we were at ACC, he was brilliant on a bike and I have fond memories of him on a GSXR750, I always wondered how he fit on it let alone pilot the thing so well.
    I will treasure the memories.
