Nearly 2 years have gone by but we are so close to get it on the race track.
The ZX650r made its first DYNO appearance last week, test rides before the dyno were not possible as she was running so badly it would have been impossible. All the small things have slowed the project hugely, the first engine didn't even arrive, which kinda set the tone for the whole build.
But now she is 94% complete, Meads Speed racing has done all of the fabrication work including modifying the frame to fit the ER motor, then we built new front and rear subframes to match some one off ZX10 and ZX6 fairings, Meads speed built a one off custom Inverse cone race exhuast system. The RNZAF is incharge of colours so the frame is Royal blue with the fairings to be painted black on white. The Magnesium hubbed,
Carbon fibre rimmed dymags are fitted and have saved kilos of weight. I have upgraded the brakes to GSXR600 calipers which saved some weight but really increased the bite up front. Im running Power commander and ign controller to manage the beast. We went on a diet, well the bike did, once the engine could fit we started chewing weight out of everywhere, end result was the bike weight the same weight as it was when i had it as a 444cc.... ..... Now we have replaced subframes, gone for a sweet light Shorai batt that is 4 kilos lighter than my MotoBatt one!!! she has lost a large ammount of weight and its even lighter than when it was a 444!!!
The work that was done to the motor has been a combined effort, Colt cams cut me some good camshafts, Bernard racing did a special porting job for me to open the head up alongh with some other stuff, we have done some other work inside the cases but you'll have to ask in private what that is :-) I did all the assembly this time thou......
Any Er riders want help with motors let me know... may have a few gems
After a couple of runs on the dyno it was found my electrical knowledge was severly lacking, we managed to sort most of it out and then we found that certain key sensors such as Air temp and Air pressure sensors were missing, so accurate dyno tuning was impossible as the bike basically uses a base setting to get riders back to a kawasaki deal to fix the fault codes.
Dyno result, well we only did couple of high power/high throttle app runs mainly to see if this one off exhuast worked.... hmmm not sure if ill publish the current graph or wait till we actually tune it proper...... Lets say I was aiming for over 79hp..... we should have aimed higher, much higher

Chris Osborne had a good smile on......
We are going back to the dyno before the month is out - I was hoping to test it in early December, but I'm being taking to Taiwan for some coaching over there, so it should make its first track appearance at the practice day of Manny tri series, I can't afford to compete there but will compete or make noise at wangas..... see if she like corners aye
I have some photos of the bike which will go up shortly.
