Thumbs up Wanted: Over 400cc bike for touring & commuting in NZ

I'm moving to NZ for a year this December, and I want to buy a bike to tour the country and to use for everyday commutes while living in the city. I've had a few months experience riding my lil' Honda VT250F sportbike here in Canada.

    Any suggestions?
    - I'm open to different styles of bikes; just gotta be very comfortable for long distances as my back gets quite sore
    - Needs to be reliable. Around 600cc would be ideal I think (250cc not big enough for longer trips - already tried that!)...I found a Honda Hornet I like the looks of but sadly it's 900cc which I think is far too much for me in terms of weight & experience
    - Weight is a factor (can't be too big for me to handle as I'm a small lass)
    - Ideally around $2,000 but will go up to $3,000 if it's an impressive deal

    Any ideas appreciated.
    Thanks

I wish you luck in your search! Have you tried looking at www.trademe.co.nz ? Pretty much anything that's for sale will be there.

You'll might have an "interesting" trip on a 2,000$ bike though It's possible to find a well maintained well loved old bike for that sort of cash, but Iunno. If it was me, I wouldn't do it. Reckon it depends on how mechanically confident you feel in checkin things over and how lucky you feel

    Hi KiwiCanadian,
My wife kanny has a 600 Bandit sport that may be what your after.
    97 model,
Ohlins rear shock with less than 10k on it.
Uprated springs in the forks. (the std are way to soft).
Mechanically fine. (Based around the bullet proof early oil cooled GSXR engines).
Will have a new rear tyre, and battery with new WOF and 3mths rego at time of sale.
    Under $3000.
    No rush for a sale.
PM me, or holla when your ready

That sounds like a winner to me. Bandits are great tourers as well.

Yeah go the bandit, with an Ohlins in it no less - bit of a steal if its got halfway reasonable kms on it.

The oil cooled engines go and go
