    KTM Duke 690 2012

Dealers are receiving them in December so im told in limited numbers, all be it about a year after their release in the UK & Aus

The previous 690 duke seemed like it was a great bike and look pretty awesome with a staunch street / supermoto appeal.
This new model is 80% new and they say does everything better.. but looks are very soft compared to the original 690 -more like a monster or GN250 with intentions of appealing to more of the masses.

Im in two minds about it, im really keen to pick one up but id prefer they stuck with the old 690 aggressive styling!
Anyone else sharing anticipation for this new model? at $13,500 its sensible money i feel, for a seriously fun package.

Also EICMA has just released the 690R version, but im guessing it will be another year away and closer to 17k.

I've been thinking about one for next year. Have got as far as phoning a dealer to find out what the deal was with the "Australia only" tag on the importer's website. He said that the intitial batch (white) are basically already sold before they arrive.
The next batch are due March (ish) and will be black.

The old bike looked better but was too tall for me. The new bike is about the same seat height as the Speed Triple but the bike is a lot lighter.

Won't be too pissed off if I can't get one, a Steet triple would do just fine thanks.

i emailed Boyds in hamilton, they are getting them first week of January 2013, but only have a black one available as white ones are sold.
They will have a demo avaliable to ride .. i think a street triple R would be my other option also, see what next year brings

The previous model was lovely. This one looks a bit meh.

You could always do what Movistar did, buy a nice used one.

So did anyone end up getting their 2012 KTM Duke 690 in 'December' like so many of the dealer's Trademe listings mentioned?

Give us an update on the bike when you get a chance!

Looks like the 690's have finally arrived in store.

TSS, AFC, and CycleSpot Euro all appear to have stock available by the looks of things.

Yup i went an test rode it at Boyds. very cool little bike if it suits your requirements, smooth for a single, punchy, light, hard to know what it would be like to live with.

Here is a cool video of a Duke 690 being stripped down, including the engine being dismantled and inspected.

Interesting if you're interested in seeing what's inside your beast!

These bikes seem like a lot of bang for yer buck.

Went to boyds but they have none and the demo is off the road for awhile.

Went to NTB racing to check out their Husq 650 Strada which is essentially the same price. They have a demo but it is the dual purpose terra not the strada.

Will still try and get a ride on them both as they seem a lot more practical than what I have now.

This video reckons the 650 is better than the 690

Trouble is the 650 is pretty ugly, heavier and less power.
