exactly -and keep in mind given its age its the 16 inch front wheel one.
-Weee I just learned summat new
The 86 model really was an orphan
The power/weight ratio was a bit better in 1986 0,39 hp/kg (0,18 hp/lbs). The upgraded GSX-R400 new chassis, shorter wheelbase and was totally redesigned. I fact, you could say it was a totally new bike. It even got a new internal model code: GK71F (presented in March 1986).
The 1986 and 1987 year's engines differ from the other models, they do not have the normal type of liquid-cooled engines. Instead they the use the SATCS (Suzuki Advanced Three-way Cooling System) that used water, oil and air to keep the engine from overheating.
The 1986 year's GSX-R400 (Type 3) had a single square headlight instead of two round headlights. The new front design didn't gain popularity and the twin headlight were reintroduced the following year.
Retail price in Japan 1986: 66,900 Yen.
Incidently how times have changed--66900y is roughly $1000 at todays exchange rate

I'd give that a good condition, no way is that immaculate. Rust spot on the bottom of the tank could be problematic if that has come through from the inside, few scuffs and bolts missing, no mirrors. apart from the tank they would be pretty easy fixes, but as Maha said no telling what else needs doing.
Try and squeeze Maha up to $900and make a deal, only way you'll get a quick sale.

pums--at the end of the day money talks and bullshit walks. You think the bike is worth 3k Maha is making an offer to BUY at $800
On monday you will know if you are right with your value or Maha's offer was correct. because the bike will be gone and you will have a pile of cash--Or not

No way would i pay 3K for a less desirable 400/4 with non factory paint.
Sorry...
3K would get a half decent FZR
I still recon the only way to sell it and get the most you can for it is to dollar res it. If you don't have a trade me account get a mate to list it for you. You're running outta time!
1500 is a bargain without a doubt. These particular models we're limited at the time of their release. Even though bike is relatively old, the prospects of finding another in this condition is out unrealistic. So good on u dude for coming down in offer. I would def choose nothing below 1k.
