    This was the price the UK payed for US involvement in WWI and the victory in that war. The price Germany payed for defeat brought on by this was insane reparations that led to the rise of Hitler, Nazism and the prosecution and genocide of Jews. The people in the middle east are STILL paying the price for this insanity.


    There was a time in WWI, around Christmas, when soldiers of the warring nations lay their arms down, met, played soccer, sang songs and saw each other for what they really were, just human beings. Too bad they did not lay down their guns permanently, go home and get on with their lives and not listen to the madmen who insisted that they kept slaughtering their brothers. How much misery could have been avoided if they had just gone home...

    A lot of the population on both sides is very well educated and integrated with the West, there are many innocents caught in the middle and who have no love for Hamas and the religious fanatics. The issue facing Israel, is how to deal with Hamas and the other radical groups without hurting the innocents who want nothing to do with the conflict.

    My daughter and son-in-law visited Israel recently and Rudy and his family there, showed Jenni around most of the country. We had reservations about her going but she found the people fantastic, warm, well educated in English, they loved hearing about NZ as many are familiar with NZ, and apart from the Orthodox Jews, very open and friendly. Rudy did make sure they avoided getting too close to Gaza, and they weren't allowed into Jordan.

    The general population is alert to the instability and security is tight everywhere, but they roamed the streets freely at night and were much safer there than in just about any NZ city after dark. In fact they went everywhere in full security and never felt unsafe at any time.

    As always it is never plain and simple.

    Not much we can do anyway, but if you think it is not "öur problem" you need to study a bit more about how integrated the world is and NZ is not immune.

    I parked my Truck late one night down a dimly lit street in Manchester England. I wasn't familiar with the area but was due a smoko so I sandwiched up and settled in for a bit.
    A short while later my Truck was surrounded by people dressed in black, literally hundreds of them swarming past, all dressed the same, little black hats, long coats and all sporting ridiculous kiss curls poking from under their hats.

    I had by chance parked up just as the largest sinagogue? in the world emptied out for the night. Despite being heavily outnumbered and a long way from home, at no time did I feel threatened and not one of them did an air strike on me, they all filed by muttering giberish or hushed with very noddy heads.

    I can only sumise from this incident, that orthodox Jews are very peaceful people that do a lot of drugs. Therefore it must be the tea-total palestinians that are causing all the trouble, simple.

    Glad I could clear up this age old problem for you.

    Really, the problem is, people are stupid, we like to think we are not but we are. Stupid stupid people that kill others because they have differenf beliefs. Religion, ethnicity, sex, Holden Ford, football are all worth killing for eh. If it wasn't for Kylie Minogue I would despair for humanity.

    Aw mate, I was simplifying (with humour) a subject that is so complex that a solution may never be found, it is the ridiculousness of my statement that was supposed to bring some levity to an overwhelmingly complex and serious subject that will not be sorted out by KBiker in the next thousand years.

    I'm a little dismayed that you didn't see that frankly.
