Most poeple "translate" the Mayan prediction as some kind of Armageddon. The term is commonly used to describe the end of the world.

If you have a different view, feel free to explain it.

Must be the most people you talk to Ed. Most all the ones I speak to only see the "Mayan prediction" as the end of the world and wonder what single event could do that, asteroid perhaps. Then again nearly all see it as rubbish and realise that the 21st 12 12 is also the summer/winter solstice and therefore accept it is most likely a cycle reset.

I really think we're splitting hairs here.

The so-called prediction has been well enough explained by now that it would be surprising if anyone still believed it.

So you'll swap one fairy story (Mayans predict the end of world) for another fairy story (Christianity and/or Santa Claus) ???

I had a sneaking suspicion that the Mayan end of the world isn't actually the end of the world but the beginning of a new world... made to order I've been led to consider. De missus got chrimbo shopping anyway, so we're fully stocked up with tin foil hats and turkey in case we get a 2hrs 35 minute warning. I wasn't going to say and I apologise for any inconvenience caused.
