Because they're only giving road registered numbers. Total sales worldwide last year, KTM outsold BMW. 106,000 to 105,000.

There was nothing on the stats page to confirm either way in regards to registration, so even given their source, the numbers have to be taken for what they are. I was going to say that KTM would more than show up if the sales stats for 250, 300, 350, 450, and 525cc off-road bikes could be found.

Pity the new Duke 690 is so ugly. That's not going to help sales.

There is somewhere that lists off-road sales, but I'm buggered if I know where . Most owners don't register their EXCs anyway so I doubt it'd change the figures much.

You reckon? I love it. Especially the "R" version. It's also very easy to forget what any bike looks like as soon as you swing a leg over it.

The previous 690 Duke (Number 3 in a series) was great. It was all stabby points and bauhaus curves with mad, glaring, stacked projector eyes.

The new one looks like an Aprilia 6.5 Moto with missing body panels, and if I were to spend money on something I like it to appeal aesthetically, at least in some way. Something the new Duke 690 most emphatically doesn't.

Fuck people on LAMS, I want one! I thought the 200 looked a doddle to ride to work, but a little more poke to pull my tummy along won't hurt

/edit: Actually, could be a good toy to teach the wife on before I unleash her on the collection....

Great minds! Well, actually, mine's a maggoty collection of fat trap scrapings, but you know what I'm saying.

The old one did look better but it was very tall. I spoke to a guy who had one, he told me he had to slide his arse off the seat everytime he stopped.

Stuff that! I'm too old to be bothered with that.

I could live with the ugly one that lets me plant foot firmly.

I have had to do that with every bike I have ever had including my Suzuki TS125. You get used to it.

Though I did strop round on a new (17inch wheel) Bonneville recently and it was great. My SO actually said to me "I'm surprised you haven't bought that". Thats sort of permission, right?

Found a listing on TradeMe stating September delivery date. I'm thinking about making the move from dirt to tarmac and this looks like a great bike.
