I saw The Hobbit last Friday

Weta put on a special viewing for staff at the embassy last Friday. Staff got two tickets, and I was My sons +1

We got the best seats in the theatre and what a awesome piece of work it is. The 48 frames makes the 3D soooo much smoother and easier to watch! Without ruining the movie I can honestly say it is a master piece, a real step up from the lord of the rings in just about every facet of the film. Wow, just wow!!!

Funny part for me was at the end when the credits rolled, nobody left their seats waiting to read their name! It was a lot of fun as they all whistled clapped and hollared each other! Was a real proud dad moment for me to see my sons name rolling up the screen. Weta already have him on contract to all of 2013 working on the next one

We stayed here until around 4.45...then got sick of everyone using the shop as a way to get from one side of Courtenay Place to the other!

Yeh there was about 9 of them, but they decided that was just silly so they made it into a trilogy and just played a couple at a time; the last was must have been at least four movies long.

When I came out of the Cinema after seeing the first LOR, I noticed all the Xmas decorations in the shops ajoining the cinema and mentioned to the Bride that I had forgotten it was Xmas for a while there, she said much the same.

I reckon that's all you can ask from a film, escapism and entertainment. For a while there I had gone to middle Earth and I hope the Hobbit takes me back there.

I went to a couple of Cast & Crew screenings of LOTR back in the day. I think it was the third film when I was sitting front row, right next to Dan Hennah who prior to the screening made a little speech to the effect that he was yet to see the film in its finished form. I still have the personalised invitations somewhere.

Best thing in my mind about the LOTR & Hobbit films is the fact that just about every second Wellingtonian has a story to tell of their involvement or experience with the making of them. That's pretty cool IMO.

I'll never forget the story I was told by a Weta staffer about the day he was in Kilbirnie Pak N Save buying their entire stock of KY Jelly & Baby wipes (they used KY as fake lava on Mt Doom & the Baby Wipes were for... wiping). He was at the checkout with a trolley full of the stuff when apparently a purple-haired old lady asked him whilst peering into his trolley "My, that's a lot of KY & Baby Wipes" to which he replied "Yes, we're making a movie". Priceless.
