I recall the BMW CEO or head of racing saying that when they started winning WSBK races then they would move to MotoGP.

Just watched that race... Wow what a mixed bag of weather, some incredibly brave riding going on out there and the championship is now wide open again!
My other half looked up at it as Skyes dropped his bike and said "Now that is an ANGRY walk" Didn't even look back!
Here's the link to one of the pictures of him with throttle open : http://www.crash.net/world+superbike...93824/2/photos
Thanks Ant, I knew Schwantz was racing but didn't realise who he was riding with. How good would it be to see the old boys do well?!
I'm just working my through the 2004 WSB season on DVD (thanks Manxkiwi) rather than suffer Morning Show shite coming off nightshift of a morning: Haga, Toseland, Laconi, Vermeulen, Chili etc going at it hammer and tongs. It makes you realise how antiseptic the racing is these days, man those guys could ride, with not a wheel speed sensor or GPS aerial cutting back the tyre smoke or wheelstands. It was a lil' sad seeing Haga circulating back in 15th/16th the other week but seeing him in his prime is something pretty special.
Funny, I used to think of those early/mid 2000's as the "lost years" when Ducati was the only Factory team and the cream of the crop left for MotoGP....but it shits all over any of the current racing in MotoGP or WSB. I think the control tyre and almost by default Ducati 998/999RS control bikes brought everyone together where the only difference was talent...and machine prep with the Ducati's pushed into pulling revs and power that was never originally envisaged. Bare knuckle brawling lap after lap after lap, just sensational.
It's been good to "reset" my own memories actually, as I'm almost seeing things with fresh eyes: I still don't warm to Toseland, but the kid (23 at the time) could bloody ride, and young 21 yr old Vermeulen was amazing fresh out of WSS on the new Fireblade. Laconi just had pace to burn, probably the outright fastest on any given day, Chili was an amazing 40 years old with a heart the size of Texas, but no self preservation instinct whatsover which had you wondering what, if anything, was going on upstairs at times. I just watched the penultimate round at Imola yesterday: Vermeulen (right in the hunt for the championship) binned it on the warm up lap for Race 2 got pillioned back to the grid by good sportsman Bussei and in obvious pain could barely hobble over the pit wall and jump on his spare bike to just make the start from pit-lane, rode through the pack and salvage 6th. Oh the drama, haha. Last round tomorrow morning, I wish I didn't know how it ends......
