It’s something I hadn’t noticed, but I saw one today & realised that they have been conspicuous by their absence.
I’m talking about Volvos.
In the 90s there was continuous blithering in the Auss MC press about Volvos being the enemy of motorcyclists as they were the most likely to drive like complete krunts. Thing was it was entirely observable in NZ. They did drive like kunts. They really did.
Further research by Volvo had found that after fitting running lights for safety, as indeed they are very concerned with safety & abounded their cars with impact bars, airbags etc from an early industry point, anyway they found that the accident rate didn’t go down.
So either running lights didn’t make them more conspicuous . . - or they were the pricks causing the accidents. Guess which.
So the observation of lay physiologists was; that the safer one feels, the more one compensates by driving recklessly.
Either way one learned to watch out for the pricks.
But perhaps we have won? At least in NZ they don’t seem to be popular any more.
I must admit to not commuting so much, or maybe it is that they have blended in looking less like a block of flats which was their signature look, all other cars look the same to me.
But good riddance.
Meh - the threat I think was replaced by SUVs & probably for the same reasons.
