So has the curse been broken?

It’s something I hadn’t noticed, but I saw one today & realised that they have been conspicuous by their absence.

    I’m talking about Volvos.

In the 90s there was continuous blithering in the Auss MC press about Volvos being the enemy of motorcyclists as they were the most likely to drive like complete krunts. Thing was it was entirely observable in NZ. They did drive like kunts. They really did.

Further research by Volvo had found that after fitting running lights for safety, as indeed they are very concerned with safety & abounded their cars with impact bars, airbags etc from an early industry point, anyway they found that the accident rate didn’t go down.

So either running lights didn’t make them more conspicuous . . - or they were the pricks causing the accidents. Guess which.

So the observation of lay physiologists was; that the safer one feels, the more one compensates by driving recklessly.

Either way one learned to watch out for the pricks.

But perhaps we have won? At least in NZ they don’t seem to be popular any more.

I must admit to not commuting so much, or maybe it is that they have blended in looking less like a block of flats which was their signature look, all other cars look the same to me.

    But good riddance.

Meh - the threat I think was replaced by SUVs & probably for the same reasons.

I haven't noticed many Volvos on the road lately.

What I have noticed lately though, is that a lot of late model Audis (the flash go-fast ones) seem to be driven by total psychopaths.

I find commuting in Welly that it"s the flash 4wds (including volvos) and little eco cars that are the worst.
    Oh and taxi drivers.

Jeremy Clarkson did say cocks seem to be giving up BMWs for Audi's.

There seems to be an over abundance of them in Auckland at the moment. I'll see one on every journey.

Every driver who is proven to be a complete fuckwit on the roads should be forced to drive an early model Suzuki Alto for 6 months. That will teach them.

of the early 2000 range I can't say the build quality is great on the audis, the 03 a6 wagon i drive occasionally has interior color/trim rubbing off and wearing horribly. only just done 100,000km.

the 98 a4t I drive have has a much better interior and feel.

back to mercedes for me, a nice 80's or prior.. they knew how to make em back then

BMW's were invented to keep coconuts out of Audi's "at lest it looks like that in South Auckland.

Volvo's are still out there but they look just like any other faceless gray car now days so they don't stand out in the crowd anymore.

I watched an Audi totally blow a GSX1000 off from the lights at the intersection of Gt south rd and Church st last year.

The way the Audi took off was most impressive but what was even better was the cop car that instantly jumped the que then chucked a U turn from the other side of the intersection and went after him.

No doing a runner on Church st that's for real

Mate they sell them all over here. Ovlovs (and Audis especially 4wd's) are everywhere and they still all drive like cunts.

Ive found SUVs tend to be the worst. They have the biggest blind spots, and yet they never check them.

I treat old raggedy-ass Toyota Surfs with the greatest caution. For some reason whenever I hit the open road, there will be a deathtrap-looking Surf somewhere that cuts corners, runs wide, crosses the centreline, overtakes blind, etc. etc.

Some of the hot Audis are damn quick. I reckon one of the coolest movie cars ever was that black Audi S8 sleeper car that was in Ronin.

I think F5 is onto something.
It seems to be those that are hell bent on being "safer than safe" are the ones that drive around causing accidents, while being convinced it's everyone else thats causing accidents.

I have a work mate like this.
He's absolutely convinced he's driving the way it should be done, slowly and erraticlly, and if anyone has a problem with that they should drive correctly as he does.
Life is a lesson-if I bother to listen

Daytime danger these days is dopey tradesmen in shitty, dirty old Toyota Vans with trailers and a pile of crap on the roof and in the back.
With pie in hand and 'can do' attitude they are a law unto themselves.
No time to be observant - they're busy building the future
