Hahaha - I can the remember "the good old days" when KB was full of users who detested KB also...

The on-line world has changed. More targeted social media (like Facebook) has taken over. Forum sites are still active, but measurably less used. KB is rapidly heading for only half the active users it enjoyed three or four years ago - and that's par for the course among internet forums.

It's a rapidly changing phenomenon. In a world were instant communication is growing exponentially, even txt messaging is on the decline - social media on smart phones has taken over.

Many of the old on-line "characters" and "trolls", are more recognised for what they were - obsessive boorish bullies. Cries of "it's just the internet" have rapidly faded into memory. The internet has grown up, it seems...

The old KB is gone. For better or worse, you can't turn back time, to "recreate" the old magic. The site dynamics have changed. Some have attempted to recreate the early KB on other forum sites, and have failed - it is all but impossible to regenerate the same dynamics - particularly without a large target audience to play to.

You just don't see the same proud "Oscar award acceptance" type threads, when someone has accumulated another 1000 posts. Which is a shame really - it gave MT a chance to hand out some well-earned red rep...

The ten-year KB anniversary passed barely unnoticed. Spank gave his approval for anyone to organise parties / reunions - it just didn't happen. Why? Because the site is no longer the be-all and end-all of interactive opportunities.

The only constant on KB now is the regular "What happened to the old KB" threads...

Biker forums on Facebook amuse me. People are so nice to each other for a starter. And they can also start and get away with threads that they would get (rightly) flamed for on Kiwi Biker. Biker down threads being one example. "I nearly got cleaned up by a cager" threads being another. Somebody should start a Facebook "Biker Wave" forum.

Where all dem white wimmen at?

Since I been working for the bank (read : got a house, mortgage, wedding to plan) its been all full bore and precious little time for riding like I used to do!

To be sure, there has been a dearth of the threads which pique witty repartee and the pontificating of pertinent points of passion! Oh my kingdowm for an iron steed of freedom!

Gadzooks, I think I hath doth spake more than I am warranted to do at this juncture! Now, where did I prak my sprotsbike in the gargre ... before the popo find it since I gassed some cagers and gave them a KB wave!

But people still call me a wanker on Facebook like they did on KB...hardly surprising though, cos I am a big wanker.... especially when I show 'respect' for people.....

Time to ditch the drudge of the office and your "all grown up" life and eat pies, drink beer and generally pootle around waving....

Facebook is odd, I never really got it. I searched for motorbike, then clicked on the top result. It then informed me I liked it. I don't see how it could call me a wanker.

    I hear ya...

I got the Facetube on the iPhone and I could never put it down for more than 5 minutes before it would beep at me "somebody just beat your angry birds score" WTF? then "so and so just posted a picture of their cat sleeping" Whaaat?

...I think I lasted 20 minutes before I turned off all the notifications.

Why the FLOB would anyone want their phone to beep at 3am telling them some pillock has just taken a funny picture of their *insert pet of choice* and they look like a monorail. Or that "Just had a nice cup of tea and a biscuit".

If I want to hear about all that stuff - I go to KB. Or to the Facetube site itself, look at what I need/new then move on. Don't get all this 'instant' notification of stuff.

If I want to talk to someone I pick up the phone and call them. If I don't want to talk to anyone, I wont log on to Facetube or whatever or answer my phone. With all the instant stuff you just can't escape. It's madness. Think of the children!

KB - okay, a lot of the people I met tried to act like their online persona's. That usually resulted in them coming across as a wanker. A few were nice online and nice offline. Made some great friends, a few I am still in contact with today.

I spend many a night reading threads on KB, enjoying the vibe and the community. Meeting new people - which I still find oddly difficult was almost commonplace.

I tried working out Facebook - I get I have a 'page' and people can post stuff. I can post stuff on their page. But it is nowhere near the same as being on a open forum and having a shared conversation?? I don't get how it can replace a forum.

I actually JUST got a flipping email. Logged on and you know what it was? Flipping Facebook. Apparently someone I don't know that lives on the other side of the flipping planet "likes" that I liked something.
