    Smoking and ciggy butts

Traveling home in the car from Papakura yesterday I was behind a woman in her car who flicked her ciggy butt out her window. I watched it slow-mo arc from her fingers up and over into my windscreen. As I pulled up next to her with my window wound down I called out to her "I'm glad I wasn't on my bike behind you as your cigarette butt just landed on my windscreen and I wouldn't have wanted it in my face". She looked somewhat taken aback and said "Oh, sorry" as she promptly took off round the corner.

It got me thinking. How many smokers here throw their ciggies out the window when they've finished with them? Years ago a friend of mine had a driver do it to him while on his bike and the smoldering butt started to burn his riding jacket. While I understand that many smokers might think a cigarette butt isn't a huge deal, especially compared to chucking cans, bottles and hamburger boxes out windows once empty, how many do it and under what circumstances? (Nah, I'm not going to report you to the litterbug police!) I'm just curious as to whether being a rider and therefore potentially being on the receiving end of someone's goobified ciggy butt in the face (or lap) makes a difference to how you dispose of them, if you smoke in your car.

Agreed but they all seem to throw their butts out the window so Princess' question to the bikers that smoke has got me wondering too. Is it that being a smoker and not wanting to put up with the disgusting residue from your habit do you still do what most others smokers do and throw your burning butt out the window or being a biker do you think of the rest of us and use your ash tray for its intended purpose?

Now I think of it, my car doesn't have an ash tray, and they now call the cigarette lighter socket a power socket as it doesn't have the lighter in it either. I wonder how the smoker's get on these days?

Of course, smoking is nasty and should be banned from the Earth...

For my sins, I smoke. In fact I can roll a cigarette while txting, drinking coffee and eating a mystery meat pie as I drive.

I'm very conscious of my habit & generally dispose of my butts in a bin. I use the ash tray & generally carry a wee tin for my butts when I'm out & about so i don't leave them in the scenery. Does my head in living in such a beautiful place & their is so much litter everywhere.

I've been hit in the visor a few times, and had one land in my helmet while bicycling past a truck once..

At 160kmh a cig hitting the visor makes a nasty thud..

    What about another poll option..

Would you rather get hit in the face by a bee or a butt?
