Glutton for punishment or what??

Well, after getting married earlier this year, and with all the fuss involved organising said event (and paying for) I was rapt after it was all done. Sure we had the best night of our lives, and a lot of friends echoed that statement (they must really get out more often) but it sure is a lot of work. So there I was, happily married, thinking about maybe which bike I'll buy next for my treat (well, the wedding was hers!) when my lovely new wife reminded me that we have another wedding in Japan to do, for those family and friends that couldn't make it to our NZ one!!

Thats right, come September the 7th we're off to Japan for 3 weeks. Luckily for me I don't speak much Japanese so my particapation in organising should be minimal. Which is a relief, but that doesn't mean the wife hasn't stopped asking my opinion on everything, which is great as she's involving me but I know like a typical woman (ducks for cover) she'll just do her own thing anyway. Also having our honeymoon just after as well.

I've explained to her that she can just drop me off at the nearest 'RacingWorld' motorcycle store while her and her friends are doing all the organising and let me spend stupid amounts of money there on toys, that'll keep me happy. Speaking of spending money, we have to buy all of our guests presents for coming to the wedding. WTF is up with that?? Pay for the wedding, the food and drinks etc, and give people presents to come to our wedding. A couple she knows in Japan spent $250,000 all up on their wedding, fark that! From what I understand however most of the guests will give us money as a wedding gift, along with other presents. And with the exchange rate being like it is, no sense in converting that back to kiwi $, so its off to RacingWorld again. Damn!!

Two weddings in one year, oh well at least it's to the same girl!!

Yip, that's a typical Asian styled wedding.
It'll be fun so enjoy it! Go with an open mind.
Just try to remain as sober as you can, you're the co-host after all.
You'll want to remember the reception and be on your best behaviour.
Also dot the i's and cross the t's as per your wife's various instructions.
You can't make a mistake as the family reputation is on the line.

I'm not deeply familiar with Japanese culture, but do you have to give a gift to her parents for your wife's hand in marriage?

Thank christ we only had to have one wedding - and that was more than enough! We're still paying it off now, almost six months later, although I did pick up a nice new bike on my honeymoon so it wasn't all bad!

That's what you get for marrying someone who comes from a culture with centuries of tradition attached to weddings!

Hmmm - seems a GREAT occasion to ask your closest friend for a new bike for a pressie... Jap bike of course... then you might ask your NEXT best friend for a bike... and then your NEXT best friend... till you've cleared the room LOL
