    the dirty business of stripping...

haha! thought i'd get your attention ;-) sorry to disappoint...BUT...
what is the best way to strip crud/oil/grease/flaky paint & scale from metal parts. I have a few largish items on my car like crossmember, diff, d/shaft, exhaust, suspension components etc. which I want to remove, clean up & paint. is it all elbow grease with a wire brush & sandpaper? or are there quicker/easier tools/ways (that don't cost hundreds)?
sorry this isn't bike related but i figure there's someone here who's already suffered along these lines & has some good advice they'd like to share.

High-pressure steam clean should do the trick
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

If it is'nt going to stuff up 'lectrics or get into areas-where-it-should-not then I would start off with a good coating of degreaser (Warehouse sell 4litre lots) and then waterblast the hell out of it.

After that it's coats of paint stripper and an old kitchen knife the re-blast it (watch no bits of stripper get blown into your eyes).

Bits that can be removed could be sand/bead blasted if you wanted.

At the end of the day you're going to need a shit-load of elbow grease and persistance.

steam clean could do a good job, or for a real nice job, see if any sandblasters could clean it up for ya. It'd make it look like new

Actually - beneath my clothes I am completely naked... (shh)

Actually - a good night at a burlesque show would be fun... Not those sleazy joints around here that I'm terrified of the bouncers at but something tasteful and... oh yes.. never mind...

Don't know of any sadly... Vicki and I went to one with friends years ago and it was a bloody good night out but all the places in Welly look decidedly dodgy.... single guy sorta places - yuck!
