not too sure of the exact legal requirements but it depends if its registered as a bike or a car

if its classed as a bike you need a helmet and no seat belt and vice versa if its classed as a car

i think it depends and the length, wheel base etc. almost all v8 trikes i have seen have seatbelts not too sure about the vw based ones tho

All the dis advantages of a cage, AND a bike. Cant pass any better than a decent car, worse if you considder ya cant see down the right hand side of the vehical in front, and if it rains ya get wet.

But, it looks cool, they do fuckin awesome wheelies, and ya get a lot of satisfaction in "the build".

depends upon the steering set up and the trikes configuration
Some trikes handle and steer like bikes, countersteering inclusive
Others are a dance of the front wheel as you skitter around corners
Some are a gym work out to lift the lump or iron in front of you
Some just ride like a dream
Like road bikes, sprot bikes, cruzers, the same applies to trikes
each one has its own personality, learn it and enjoy

Many years ago in Wellington a good riding buddy of mine built one and toured with us near everywhere we went. I had my injected GPZ1100 that was Katana days so probably about 1984ish. The trike was home built around a leylend p76 Aluminium V8. Went like the clappers. The Ali V8 was suberb for a trike (I point this out because holdens etc now have them Standard). He passed cars like we did (mad bastard). So no lack of power even from a 3.5L engine and handled real well. 3 Seater, Rider in the middle with two either side and slightly behind. The law in those days was Helmet and no seat belts or Seat belt and no helmet.

Ah those where the days. Do you Welly guys still race the tucka's every weekend. One of the scariest things I ever did was pillion on a yoshi Katana 1100 up the tucka's facing backwards! Yee ha!
On a Motorcycle you're penetrating distance, right along with the machine!! In a car you're just a spectator, the windshields like a TV!!

'Life's Journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out! Shouting, ' Holy sh!t... What a Ride!! '

Fuck yeah man, it's the Sunday race track!!! Well it is for the young fellas anyway, I seem to have grown up a bit since I started racing proper, still give it the hell nudge every now and again if I feel my title is under threat from someone undeserving.

how do you explain a ride to person who has never ridden something that is different to ride.
The critics will always be there to spout 5H1T about things they have never ridden
Like the abuse given to Harley riders from those who have never experianced the ride of a harley
The 5H1T given to Sport Bike riders from those who think sport bikes are crap.
Or the hours of boasting from the sport tourer guys about those slow fuckers they passed on the way to such and such rally
All 5H1T to those being put down, whatevr Gerene you ride
    The same with trikes
Be it a rear engined dancer or a front engined cruzer, a moded bike (trikeworks version) or a butched heap of parts tossed togeather without ryme or reason.
You will get those who know tell you of their superiour cornering, braking, comfort etc
The those who will tell you they are just crap handlers, slow as a Fait Bambinas, over valued lumps of useless iron etc
But in the real world each trike is as different as the next.
Some do handle like shit...Some handle better than the high spec rides you can buy, bike or cage.
It depends IMO upon the design, built, power to weight ratio, center of ballance and rider ability..Sime trikes are awsome in the right hands, others are 5H1T, but that could be said for all types of transport 2.3.4.or18 wheeled!

I have ridden VW trikes , concider them a dancer not a performer, a machine that you have to know how to ride or you just dont, nothing in the middle.
I have ridden V8 trikes from big blocks to little ones, depending upon the front end set up they are either awsome or crap.
I have ridden 6 & 4 cylinder in lines, a waste of time,
A front mounted Subaru 2l boxer is somewhere in the middle...but bloody quick.
I have not ridden a Trikeworks conversion, so can offer no comment there.
If it is built well, a trike will out perform a bike and a cage, but built wrong its a hunk of old iron that sometimes looks good, but often not.
A Trike is a really good compromise when, because of physical injuries you can no longer ride a Bike and dont want to suffocate in a cage.
I am sure most souther ralley attendees know our mate who has ceribal palsey and attends all the ralleys on his VW trike carrying his wheelchair.
That guy always has a hot chick in attendance

As for weather protection, thats up to how you want to look, but a trike can be a lot warmer in the cold,
For the comment of cant see past the car in front...... open you eyes and think outside the limited vision you have. Stand up and look!
For the comment, they cant pass as good,
Go ride one and experiance what you can do....you may be surprised

Never riden one but I intend to soonish. There's a Trike dealer in New Plymouth now with four or five to choose from and a couple of big boulevards awaiting conversion.

Pure conjecture on my part but if your into laid back summer cruising , surely a bike based trike is the ultimate cruiser ride, lets be honest putting your leg down when you stop can be a chore.
    Oh bugger

They've just released a new range of trikes in Australia called the Can-am Spyder. Has two wheels at the front, and one wheel at the back.

Looks like a snowmobile on wheels, and I bet it must be fun to drive.

Does a chick with a peg leg and a single crutch count as a trike?
    Ride, eat, sleep, repeat!
