    Police abuse driver

I posted in here some time back an experience I had between Foxton and Bulls where a cop pulled over a rider in a group I was with and threw the book at him.

In my opinion for no reason, as we were riding together, and no one was speeding, although a ticket for 120+ was written out by the policeman.

I was watching proceedings when the cop told me to fuck off or he would take my licence and bike for 28 days under boy racer legislation.

It seems that it may not be that uncommon in the area for cops to behave like this.

A policeman's expletive-laden tirade at a teenage driver is under investigation by the independent police watchdog after being caught on tape.

The officer called the 16-year-old a "dickhead" and "idiot" and repeatedly used the f-word during the stop, apparently because he believed the boy had pulled the finger at him.

He was so close during the outburst some of his spittle landed on the young man's face.

"I thought he was going to hit me," said Dyllan Vaughan, the driver.

"Every time I see a police officer now I feel nervous."

Vaughan, an apprentice butcher from Foxton, was driving home from work on September 3 when the officer put on his lights and pulled him over in North St. Unbeknown to Vaughan, his iPhone was on and recording. He said he'd left it on after taping a song from the radio earlier. The audio captures the exchange between the two, which begins with the officer demanding to see Vaughan's licence and asking why he thinks he's been pulled over.

"I don't know officer," Vaughan says.

The officer replies: "Yes you f.....g do. Why'd I f.....g pull you over, dickhead?"

When Vaughan tells the officer to watch his language, the policeman then calls him an idiot, and accuses him of gesturing towards him.

"I wouldn't do that," Vaughan says.

"Bullshit," the officer says. "I catch you doing that sort of bullshit again and I'll go over your car and I'll find as much trouble as I can for you."

Vaughan said the officer then threw the licence back at him and sped off. He denies giving the cop the middle finger.

"I don't know what his problem was. But I felt really intimidated. When someone comes to the window and starts abusing you and they're supposed to be a respected member of the public, it doesn't feel great," he said.

Vaughan's father, Peter Vaughan, said he thought the officer's behaviour was disgusting.

"He's a 16-year-old boy who's just got his licence," he said. "If you or I did it, it would be called gross misconduct."

The family have since made a complaint to the Independent Police Conduct Authority, which confirmed it was investigating. The family did not yet know the officer's name.

Auckland barrister Nicholas Taylor, who has also heard the tape and gave some advice to the family, said no matter what police thought Vaughn had done, he should not have been treated that way. "How can the police expect a young person to show police respect if they're going to behave like that?"

Taylor said he found it particularly concerning that the officer had made a threat against Vaughn, saying if he pulled him over again he would "go over his car and find trouble" for him.

"That brings up grave concerns for me. I find this sort of behaviour from a member of the New Zealand Police very disappointing."

A police spokesman confirmed the complaint had been passed to IPCA. "We take all complaints seriously," she said.

    Police had no further comment.
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.

IPCA answer..."That could be anyone's voice on that recording. Our members do not act like that. No case"
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

We don't know the full story. We did not see if that kid did or did not give him the finger. My question is, why did he feel it necessary to record the conversation? Maybe he knew exactly why he was being pulled over and this would be an excuse to deny it on tape? and of course he will never admit to committing a crime when he knows the conversation is being taped. Is it against the law in NZ to insult an officer?

    Cool story bro.

But bullshit. What kid records songs from the radio with his phone? He set the cop up. Hes after his 15mins of fame.

Should have taken his shitbox 4wd off him and crushed it.

With some of the shit that a minority of Police try and get away with (from what I have experienced/seen) ,recording it can be a good idea.
However in this case it could have been quite easily been a case of a smug lil gimp being a smart arse and the cop reacting unprofessionally.

So we're all assuming it was a cop that was recorded and not just a staged prank... any video?
And IF it is, then why was the kid recording... using a phone in the car... innocently accused... yeah whatever!

Would be good if all those incidents that cops attend and do well and help people, change lives etc got some media, but then again those are the good people who don't whine and whinge at every opportunity I spose'.

Actually it is ... subject to a $500 fine. A charge seldom used by itself ... as most judges throw it out on appearance in court. But is often added as weight ... to other charges (like resisting arrest/disorderly/drunken conduct etc)

a cop has about 10 seconds to make an impression on me, and that will decide whether i stick a tape recorder in their face or not.
public place, legally public office (constable), it's not illegal to take photos or record events. i think everyone should.
(check out "police abuse in NZ" on youtube, for the lulz)

if he hadn't, you fogies would dismiss him, much as you have, and of course three good cops stand up in court, yes your honour, no your honour, tongue your arse your honour, no evidence ot the contrary your honour, and the kid gets the bum deal.

remeber that little cunt in primary school, the scrappy one, who didn't really have any mates, thought he was tough shit but still got beat up heaps?
    yeah, that's the average cop.
there ARE good ones out there, but they're a fucking rarity.

probably 99% of the complaints to the "independent" (: ) PCA, get thrown back to the cops, where it's yes boss, no boss, tongue your ass boss, no evidence to the contrary, cbf actually investigating, and a polite fuck-you letter to the complainant.

Gotta say I'm not surprised. There's some real arseholes out there, and some of them get in the police.

After the last guy who pulled me over I've decided if I ever get pulled over again I'm recording the conversation.
