Just watched the interview on tv with graham crosby.

Was a good watch but what got me was when he was telling about winning the suzuka 8 hour event BY HIMSELF.

His co rider had dibeaties and was crook.

8 hours going flat out farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk i was knackered after 2 races and a 30 minute stint at pual nixen.

Been watching a bit of Choice and U. Some good stuff on them but only fluke what I see, must read tele guide

Yeah. Croz. Read his book and enjoyed it. However despite being among the top ten riders in the world (or No 1 in his own opinion) he never explained why he was dropped by the big teams in 1982 (or thereabouts). Can't help feeling he lacked humility even 20 years on so my admiration of Croz is muted. He's entertaining and good at telling how good he was but that wears thin after a while.

Yer honda had a bigger tank than regulations allowed and they only did one stop instead of two like the rest and at the end of the race graeme was in sight of the honda and saw the rider after the race had finished punching his fist into the tank.
Everyone thought he was punching his fist in delight at winning but he was actualy trying to stove the tank in to reduce the capacity.

Honda said it didnt matter as they had put baby bottles in the tank to reduce the tank capacity but "THEY LEFT THE TOPS OFF the bloody bottles" so they filled up anyway which is why they got through on one stop lol.

I dont know much about him realy but was impressed at him winning 8 hour race alone.

He did say that the team he was with wanted him to campain a f1 bike again but he decided he had won that championship so wanted to stay with the strokers as he had unfinished busniess there maybe why he was dropped but dont really know.

Sounds like a different guy to the one I've met Winston001.

I understood it was his choice to leave after gaining the No2 Plate ? He was always a layed back happy guy who loved a beer.

He does outline it in the book : no seats. He struggled with Agostini's management style and with Roberts calling the shots and Marlboro money, Lawson was parachuted into the #2 seat. Suzuki he had already left, with Mamola's #1 status making any position there untenable anyway, and Honda were full with the big squad of Spencer in his second year, the newly-signed Lucchinelli, Haslam etc. I felt also that perhaps having a manager along the lines of Harris Barnett (in Gardner's case) to have begun sorting something out during the year would have helped prevent the jaded feeling that built up in Croz as the season closed, making it easier for him to walk away.

Reading between the lines and having talked to Croz about it, I think his biggest problem with Suzuki was riding two very different bikes - the XR69 four stroke and the works RG500. His race programme was incredibly busy, and I reckon he never got enough time to practice on the 500 and he certainly never got to grips with it - certainly not enough to consistently win GPs. Other Suzuki riders, Mamola and Sheen, just refused to ride both and stuck with the 500.

It might have been better for Croz if he had specialised in one or the other.

The Agostini team sounds like a complete shambles - I mean, draining the race fuel into the bosses car, leaving Croz to pop down the the local gas station and buy fuel of uncertain quality and octane rating for the bike? Lending a fully prepped race bike to someone for a local race so that when Croz got his hands on it, it had been crashed and the engine was worn out - so they had to build an engine out of old spare parts? Of course it blew during the race, as Croz knew it would.

You can't win world championships with that sort of crap going on and the Marlboro money soon went elsewhere...
