    My first posting Yaaaa!!
Anyone out there got a v-tec Viffer? If so I am very interested to know what a 24K service will set me back. Also if anyone has already had one done on the V-Tec, Did the valve clearances need adjustment?
I am told that the valve clearances is the biggest, longest, and the most expensive part of the service. My bike is due, by not having the valve clearances touched. would this void my warranty? As the engine is as quiet as the day I picked it up brand new. Well that's my lot for now. I enjoy this site, and talking to Kiwi Blokes. Go the AB's stick it up those Ockers.
Also whilst I am here, I will give myself a plug!! If your in the shit with the missus, take a look at trademe and look up my name below on the site, and get yourself sweet again, I sell some good shit for chicks!!!
    cheers all

Welcome - really nice machine but you're apparently right about servicing costs. There's a very good VFR site in the UK (http://www.bikersoracle.com/vfr/forum/) that it's probably worth you joining that will cover everything you need to know.

    Cheers

    Nup.
I test-rode one, and decided that because the improvements in handling, instruments and styling compared to the previous model didn't outweigh the VTec servicing costs and the dubious character of the engine, I'd buy a 2001 model instead.

I've heard about 4 - 6 hours labour, depending on the competency of the mechanics.

The VFRs generally don't need reshimming, but if they do, it's most likely in the first or second service.
You can't rely on the lack of noise as a guideline, as odds are that the valve clearance is likely to be too small rather than too big, which is much worse, leading to lack of power and valve seat recession.
Also, later on your camchains are going to get noisy, and then you won't be able to tell whether your clearances are good or not.
If I were you, I'd get at least the first one done, and then fit a pair of noisier exhausts so you can't tell what's going on.
Oh - and sign up with VFR Discussion - lots of good stuff in there.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Thanks guys for the advice, some good, A few good humour, but I was rather surprised at the comments one guy had to say. Referring to the dubious characteristics of the engine, dribble dribble dribble. After one test ride, Fuck I should be getting you to do the service. You must have learned a bit about them from the experience!!! Incidentally The 05 Viffer got voted spots bike of the year, worldwide last year. At least I got the year right mines an 05 model.
    Cheers for the replies Guys
