Somthing to help explain wich states are southern.
The Mason-Dixon Line was the border between north and south and ran along the northern borders of Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, (pronounced Arkansaw) and Texas.

But to about 95% of the english speaking world "yank" is anyone from the States. Anyone. north south east or west.
