Broke. The best gear I can come up with.

I am flat broke so I don't have any proper gear at the moment. I don't wanna look like a squid so this is what I managed to put together.

Hi-Vis full covering work jacket ( Fire proof it's a linesman's jacket for working on power lines and stuff ), Jeans ( Yeah I know they last about 2 seconds ), leather steal cap work boots.

Is this enough not be be regarded as a squid? I plan to get some proper gear when I have the money but I still wanna ride light rather then having a full suit I have to get in and out of.
Some people just ride better then me. You know it's me when you hear high revs around a corner but the bikes going 20kphr.

Theres a plethora of 'what gear' threads on here, just search

i will say this tho, remember your linemans jacket is branded and I'm very sure the company has strict rules around what can and cannot be done in branded gear.
Whether or not you ride sensibly all the time is not up for debate, but whatever you are seen to be doing can be reported and company branded gear is the worst for irate drivers phoning in.

Just talk to your company's fleet manager about the number of people phoning in incidents just because they are pissed off and see a vehicle with an 0800 on the back.
Now look at the general attitude towards guys on bikes and you've got a real can of worms.

My advice, at least get a textile jacket ASAP before shit starts heading your way.

We have both branded and unbranded ones. I ride with the unbranded one. I been told this already by my company.

it's better than shorts and a singlet, and at least you are thinking about it.

But I would suggest getting some better stuff asap, if you are on a budget, look into maybe some second had stuff that's still in good condition, probably the best way to get some quality gear quick and on a budget!

I sometimes think in the city you be better off in a HI-vis then all black leathers riding a black bike. I am considering keeping the jacket on if I can somehow "scrap" test it. It looks like it would stand up to road rash really well being fire proof and all.

Don't become laissez faire about the fire-proofing in that jacket, it only a chemical additive that's why it washes out.
Cotton is also 'fire-proof" thats why you wear it underneath the jacket, as is wool. None of which will fare as well in a slide as leather.

My point is the fire-proof is only good for a flash-over, not motorcycling. Don't rely on it it's only a heavy jacket at the end of the day.

Hum this is the First of April isn't it?
OK if you are for real go read your Pm's and I will arrange for you to come get my textile armoured jacket. It's big and it's waterproofing is shot but it will stop you being rubbed out on the road if you come off..Assuming all the other planets are lined up and you don't hit or get hit by anything else.

Your local gardening store / warehouse should have some leather gloves to suit you....

You won't know if you don't ring the number.
Most likely have a nearly worn out pair of gloves kicking around here somewhere too.

If you are size 52, I have an old 2-piece set AGVSport leather suit (black/red/white) that you can have for $40.

What size are you? I have a textile jacket and trousers that don't fit (too big). 2XXL Spidi jacket with lots of vents for Summer and a zip out liner for Winter, and a pair of Orina XL trousers with zip out liner for Winter.
