Or they've got no food left at home so the pizza is an early dinner to tide them over 'til they finally get paid - that'd be me. I'd've phoned Juliet and got her to bring the kids in - "Bog in, this is all we've got to eat today."

Glad to hear your sorting it out ok.
dont you hate it when the bank charges its monthly fees. puts you 10c in debt and then charges $20 fee for the debt?

late wages tends to happen with our company everytime there is a 3day weekend. or when the girl up in auckland that does the payroll goes on holiday. hey i actually got overpaid 200 the other week. ive told the boss if he wants it back it'll be minus tax. ive made sure theres always enough in the bank to cover bills if pay is a day late now and ahve an overdraught facility just in case. its saved me a few dishonor fees in the past.

It probably wouldn't hurt to arrange a small overdraft at the bank to ensure you are covered in the event of something like this happening again. Even $50 or $100 is a help when you're broke! From memory you only pay overdraft fees if you use the overdraft (ours is always used!) so it is one thing to think about.

Nice of your bank to reverse the fee, many wouldn't.

Dishonouring a $10 AP that would put me $5 in overdraft then charging a $25 dishonour fee that puts me $20 overdrawn is what gets to me - the logic behind it is readily apparent: they can charge a lot more punitive interest on that $20 than they can on $5.

At least Dick Turpin and Plunkett and Macleane had the decency to wear masks and point guns at you...

    Bloody pay

    You think that was bad............

Last December I took three months leave without pay from work. Happily collected all my holiday pay (which I had been accumulating for well over a year) and went my merry way. Got a letter this week to say that they had only just realised that they had overpaid me in my holiday pay by nearly two thousand dollars and I now had to pay it back!!! I have the option of how I pay it back but don't want this bloody thing hanging over my head for the next year or so while I dribble it to them as it's going to be a debt when I apply for my next mortgage soon. So ......... guess I'm gunna have to fork it out.

Now I know I must have got it when it obviously wasn't mine (not that I took any notice at the time) but ................. finding out about it 8 months later!!! Ye Gods - what's with these people!

    hmmmmm

[QUOTE=placidfemme]lol yeah but I'm a chick I can do two things at once...

The company held a staff meeting and told everyone that they are sorry for whats happened and that until the directors return they cannot agree to re-imburse the overdraft fee's and so they can't make any garantees until given the go ahead by the bosses...

Clearly the telephone doesn't connect from NZ to australia........

Thats a good piece of advice.

Relying on other people (ie) in this case a company pay clerk - to never stuff up, just doesnt work - people will always let ya down. Take control of your affairs -

I think I would be saying "sorry, but something like this should have come to your attention within a few weeks. As you have not advised me of this overpayment for eight months, I do not believe I have a responsibility to pay this back." Let them come up with a good reason why you should! If they do prove their case and say you have to come up with the money, you have the right to take at least eight months to do so - because that is the time they took to advise you of the problem. Good luck, I'd try doing a runner!

Actually (i'm pretty sure about this) I think you aren't legally obligated at all to pay it back when an overpayment occurs. But if you still work for the
company life would be hell if you exercise "those" rights!

As an employer I remember asking the labour dept about it - and the answer (the above answer) really got me hot under the collar! - about the cheek of it - and that you have to hope the employee is really nice and gives it back!!

Had a boss that did this every other week!
One Friday morning he rings just befor lunch, only 10 mins after putting the phone back on the hook:
    Boss, "Where are you?"
    Me, "At home, why?"
Boss, "You didn’t ring in, Why arnt you here?"
Me, "Well, remember last week when I got shitty with you for forgetting to pay me..."
    Boss, "Err..."
Me, "And the week befor that?"
    Boss, "Umm..."
Me, "Where the fuck is my money this time! When its in my account I'll come to work!"

Same boss told me my replacement was only a phone call away! Handed him the phone and walked out.
Took him 3 days to ring and apologize, 2.5 days too late!
Took my replacement 3 weeks to arrive and I got him a better job 1 week later!
    I love revenge!

The moral to this is if you treat your staff badly they will leave, if you don’t they will stay and work harder for you!
Been on both sides now, and I haven’t had anyone leave while working for me!
Glad I'm not in charge any more tho.

    Love my job now!
We all have our little obsessions...

Well my money arrived in my account this morning... at least I'm not broke anymore...

Still have the issue of honor fees (is actually $20 per AP that goes out), so I have $60 worth of honor fees.

The boss said he would sort that out for me today, so thats all good.

    thanks for all the advice
