Can I mix two same spec oils of different brands?

Had a bit of a tidy up in the garage and found two left over 4 litre oil containers with I guess about 500ml left in each. Both are 10W40 synthetic motorcycle oils but from different manufacturers. I was going to keep them for top ups and my question is can I throw the contents together into one bottle seeing as they are the same specs or am I best not to mix them? (It's a bit of a moot point anyway as the bike doesn't use oil... but it will save me a little space if I can biff one container.)

Yes you can.

Think of it this way. Your bike came new from the factory with brand X oil in it, first oil change and the shop put brand Y in it, next change the dealer had changed their preferred oil supplier due to the new sales rep having a fantastic pair of boobs. Now you have brand Z in there. Then you started changing your own oil .......

And so on and so on............

Each oil change probably left half a litre of 'old' other brand oil in the engines nooks and crannies. Mixed just fine.

I use the oil in the lawn cutting device myself smokes like hell when starts hehe

It's ok, she was dirty already so...lather rinse repeat will take care of the funny taste

Generally mixing oils is not recommended. They have different additive packages.

Like you though I have multiple part containers here now, Mobil 1 0-40, and a couple of different Motul syn 10-40.
In an emergency I'd dump the whole lot in. Better the mixture than nothing.

Yes you can (unless one is the old caster based Castrol R racing lubricant).

ASME clasification for motor lubricants require all motor oils to be mixable.

Its best if you mix say a SG oil with a SG, as oils after SG are low in metal based addatives so they don't polute cats.
