    turboing a bike

I was looking at options for making my bike faster ...
    i was quoted sumwhere round 1500 for a zzr 600 engine ....
bugger that ..so anyway there i was on trademe an i see a sooby turb for sale that sum guy had on his 400, I would have thought it would need to be a pretty small turbo to be anythiing like usefull on a small cubes engine. But thinking about it it wouldnt be a bad idea .high compression should help the turbo to spool up quicker an only run low boost ,so minimal stress on the turbo .What would need to be done to turbo my bike?are bike carbs good for it ?i know i turboed a cortina and had to seal off all holes so that it could be pressurised..same with a bike?any thing else??

ummm.....no.......is the short answer.....turbo is way to big....second....you will need to lower your compression to safely run a turbo....carb will work fine as long as its before the turbo....you will need to be awesome at fabricating the pipes to go from 4 carbs to one turbo and back to four inlets...as you won't be able to run the carbs as blow through....carbs require the vacuum to work propally....you will have to re jet them too...then you would have heat isusse's...well maybe...you could do it....not with that turbo....it will cost $$$$$$$$$$ and big ones to...

if you need more power....find a suzuki rg500 engine !!!!!!! and buy some good pipes.
you will have fast then....or buy a faster bike....infact....why don't you?
Its easyer to buy a hare than turbo a turtle...and hares usually look better too?

It would be easier and ultimately cheaper to buy a new bike with a better power to weight ratio than to undertake either of the two options you have outlined. A good rule of thumb for this type of custom work is add 50% to any quote you get given and then double it and multiply it by the number of years difference between you and your nearest in age sibling.

But then why listen to me? I'm old and know nothing useful.

got to agree, find a better bike than modifying the zzr.
insurance would not want to insure you if you have any.
so upgrade. and 1500 to turbo a bike sounds bloody cheap i'm sure it would cost a shite load more.
price wise it's not a good thing. re sale would suck if you could sell it.

but turboing a zzr 600 would be cool.
come on guys we all know its not practicle but when has owning a bike ever been.
    its the fun factor.
