    I am sold. ...

Cheers. Sadly I can see steel, so I'm treating it as a write-off

When fitted it won't show as it will be behind the rim. Not sure x-ray specs are standard issue...

    Re-life a munted front tyre.
Get your munted front tyre, drill a12mm hole in the sidewall, fit it to the rear rim, fit a munted rear tyre over it and pop onto the rim, a little air pressure added, and....... BURN IT OUT, BURN IT OUT>>>>>.

You can see steel? Not just the aramid ( or whatever they are ) cords?
Basically....a tyre has a bunch of big steel wires that run around the bead(s). Then they have a bunch of cords that go from 1 side of the tyre to the other. These wrap around the bead wires.
If the damage you have is restricted to the rubber ONLY(even if you can see the cords) then it'll be ok for a while (till the cords deteriorate)
BUT if any of the cords are cut/broken then it's trash.
Can you pull the rubber apart and get a pic of the 'steel' you can see?

BTW, If your location is 37 south, you're real close to either myself (36.59.02 south) or mouldy. I'll take a loosee if you want a professional opinion or perhaps mouldy would take a look too.

Thanks. Am struggling to get a decent picture but will post one up if I manage it.

Righto, think I managed a decent pic at last. As I see it, the cords are severed for a few mm and it looks like I am seeing steel up in the tyre (not visible in the picture). Maybe that is just more cord but, going by what you say, it is shagged since the cords are compromised.

TBH, a new one would be $159 and the damaged one is maybe a 30% worn already. I am not flush with cash, but I'd rather not bet my life on it for that money!

    See what you think, anyway.

    Yeah .. It's fucked - history - a goner - totalled.

Donate it to the Hampton Downs tyre wall ... at least there it will still be of some use ...
