    Dear http:/m.*

what the fog is up with blinking websites that autodetect, and don't have a link to view full site. or a /m?=0
and what if wanted to bleeding well view the full site, with full functionality, on my fogging phone, huh? what then?
that tom foolery brasses me off.
just because i'm accessing via 3G, doesn't mean i'm on a blessed phone.
(wikipedia for one, tube8 for another...and trademe seems to forget even if i don't clear the cache...)

Probably happens because you are so outside the system.

on my android phone/tablet, i go into the browser settings and tick "always request desktop site".

They detect based on what your phone requests. Changing it to "desktop" makes your phone browser send its request as a non mobile browser rather than "mobile". There is no accurate way of knowing if you are on 3G or not via an HTTP request (because that would entail mobile providers giving all web site designers and hosting companies a list of IP addresses that they allocate to mobile devices).

Does that amount to it sending a different user agent string?

    pretty much..

Not sure of the specifics.. I only build the servers, I dont write the code..

At least, it works with places like tardme on my tablet... and I cant recall ever getting the M version of a site since I changed it.. neither can the mrs.

Never had a problem.. using "desktop" works for me.. or try these:

    http://theunlockr.com/2011/01/26/how...-of-a-website/ (per site)

    http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-...roid-browsers/ (try this first first)

Blame the iThing loving hipster marketing tw@ts. It's the current "in thing" that they always request. Doesn't matter if it looks shit on a proper pc so long as it has speeshul features for their beloved iPad.

umm the "iThings" pull proper (desktop) sites not the watered down /m vers, it's my bloody android that keeps pulling the mobile site & it pisses me off so I know Akzles frustration. All sites should have ability to switch & more-so lock in that choice.

    Dear G33ks.

anyone got any bright ideas about why windows wont BT tether a fucking dial up connection? it worked, then windows shat. now i can't click into the "advanced" tab on modem settings without "windows has shat itself and needs to close, send microsoft an error report"
how?! by fucking carrier pidgeon? you're fucking out when i'm trying to connect to the internets.

and the cunt gets paid 220$ a second.

    r0ar!

on a side note, i'd accept a USB tether, but now even that wont do without nokia suite installed :'(

What flavor windoze? I'd erase the device driver(s) for it first and uninstall all the nokia/sony/whatever suite.

XP pro. because i'm so pro.

nah got it in the end, didn't have to uninstall drivers. (got BT ones anyway, not winblows generic) it's just a matter of making sure the right winblows services get started when i want them. ><

still can't USB tether, even when had the nokia suite installed with cable driver etc. so i'm on a mighty .6Mbps. (in theory phone is capable of 10) with no nokia suite installed.

Are you using you using a mobile as your 3G modem? If so that could be the reason - your being identified on the mobile network as a mobile device. I´ve never had that issue running using an external network or USB 3G modem - although I always assumed it was the browser that identified itself as a mobile device version? Why are you using windows? I thought you were sticking it to the man and going all "Open Source LINUX FTW"??
