For future reference regarding energy consumption: Purely as an example, a 70kg person uses 1.7 calories per minute typing.

Let's see .. my typing speed is more than 30 words a minute .. more like 40 words (I have been officially tested in a previous life) .. so I used about 1.3 calories on that post - Fuck I still need that walk around the block to help us up the lunch calories ... typing on KBer is never going to help me loss weight.

It should do, Broadening your horizons by seeing the world as others on KB see it, Expanding your understanding of other cultures and developing a new awareness and respect for others through social intercourse?

    All takes energy

And you thought KB was all talking bullshit about bikes

    Sir Edmond Hillary
    Sir Stephen Tindall
    Sir Micheal Hill
    Sir Peter Blake
    Sir Bob Jones
    Sir Mad Butcher
    Sir Paul Holmes

Now which ones would you pick as worthy ?

In April 2000 the new Labour Prime Minister Helen Clark announced that knighthoods and damehoods were abolished, and the order's statutes were amended accordingly. Between 2000 and 2009, the two highest awards were called Principal Companion (PCNZM) and Distinguished Companion (DCNZM), and recipients did not receive the title "Sir" or "Dame"

In 2009, Prime Minister John Key restored the honours to their pre-April 2000 state. Principal Companions and Distinguished Companions (85 people in total) were given the option to convert their awards into Knighthoods or Damehoods. The restoration was welcomed by the Monarchy New Zealand. The option has been taken up by 72 of those affected, including rugby great Colin Meads. Former Labour MP Margaret Shields was one of those who accepted a Damehood, despite receiving a letter from former Prime Minister Helen Clark "setting out why Labour had abolished the titles and saying she hoped she would not accept one"

Hillary made a large portion of his life about giving service to humanity, shame it wasn't in New Zealand, but nevertheless, he was of BENIFIT TO MANKIND!, the rest, glory (Blake) or riches seeking self serving business tycoons.

A knighthood of genuine value, of genuine honour, should be beyond the reach of money or political influence.

Neither of them had an actual mandate to do any of that but (IMHO) Helen Clark was the worst thing that ever became prime minister of this country anyway!

I agree with this whole heartedley, I personally, I believe that Peter Leach deserves to be called Sir (title or not) the amount of his own time
And money he gives to local causes is amazing, and Ed Hillary, he did more good than most others on the list combined.

    Paul Holmes? Bah!

Most got it for making money (and some for supporting a political party?) but along the way they created jobs for people who may have been pleased to have had the oportunity. Some philanthropy doesn't hurt, but no need to over egg the pudding.

Sir Peter Blake was undoubtedly a great sailor - but he was a completely crap gunfighter.

Sir Paul Holmes' knighthood doesn't bother me, there have probably about as many less deserving as there are more deserving.
