Hyosung 650gtr 2013

Hey there,

It's coming up to full licence time so I'm on the look out for a new bike.

Never really rated hyosung, but after seeing the pictures of the new model I had a test ride down at Barry's point. Brand new they are 10k, 2yrs warranty etc. First 650 I have tried, so obviously felt much bigger and quicker than my ninja.

Just wondered if anyone else had managed to test these out and what thoughts were? Was waiting for a review to come out to get a better overall picture.

took that exact bike for a test ride last week .sounded nice didn't it.my first thoughts were quite heavy and could see a bit of 'cheapness' in a few parts but overall not too bad. I'm finally getting my arse into gear and getting my licenses sorted ( NOW that I'm back on bikes) but wanted something bigger than a 250 as the mrs and I enjoy going for rides so thought this was a reasonable middle ground.would be fine with both of us on and be legal for me when I was by myself but to be honest ive now scratched that idea and am just going to buy a known brand bigger bike and risk it.at the end of the day it is a new bike and has a warranty but the warranty only covers repairs,not all the times I'm late for work or cant turn up at all,the bike also has to be serviced only by them which costs me more time and money for things I could quite easily do myself,its also not going to hold its value as well as a known brand.the known brand bike ill buy will already has 20+kms on it proving its gone the distance,can fix it myself and will hold its value.just got to last the 18 months without being pulled over

Honda have a range of 700cc bikes for 12k new I think. It would be worth demoing one of them to see if they are worth an extra 2k athough over 650 attracts higher reg which may be a negative.

Unless I'm just getting done by the rego people, the price jumps up at 601cc, I think the hyosungs share a bit of engine tech with the the suzuki sv from what I've read so nthe motor is probably not bad, if you want to stay in the lower rego price range a honda hornet 600 or something like that will provide well.

No, You'd rather just by a reasonably light, flickable 600, then put on 'oversize/loverlength' forks to 'convert it' to handle like an overweight Hyobucket!!

my suggestion to you would be to look on TM for a new/ish 600 from any of the top brands, no need to fork out 20k for a new bike from a better brand, there are a few late models with VERY low km on there which I'd say would be better than buying new.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't been able to read up any official review of the 2013 model, it's meant to have better quality parts, brakes etc, but yeah after looking round 10k does go along way.

I agree about the warranty, I see warranty and think ahh sweet no issues for 2 years! obviously not the case.

There's a massive divide in the opinion of hyosung, I was always under the opinion they were a poor bike, but some riders swear by them.

Anyways, cheers for your help, a 2nd hand 600 is probably the best way to go

I'd look at getting an older 600/650 ... and using it for a year or so. Get a bit of experience on a bigger/heavier/faster/more powerful bike ... without the high risk of damage from stupid NOOB mistakes.

Even an earlier version of what you are looking at would be an advantage when you get a new one.

Workshop manuals wont vary much ... nor will the bike layout. So you will be familiar how to do stuff on them. (Again ... no NOOB mistakes/silly questions)

I got offered an early GT650 naked for $2k when I was picking up the ZX6. Resale is not a strong point, a bit like the riding experience. And build quality

Parts are uber cheap though

paid 3,300 for my 99 600 hornet 3 years ago ,its still worth at least that now
