I've shot my share of feral cats....I was surprised I could shoot so many(4-5 I think it was) in the back blocks of Molesworth Station on a single trip so far from people.

What pisses me off to no end is that while society feels I am responsible for my dog's poo(rightly so) there appears to be no equal responsibility for a cat owner to police the poo of his/her cat.

Considering the fact that cat poo can transmit disease, I reckon it's not an insignificant health hazard.

But it's perfectly OK for cat owners to leave their cats out of the house 99% of the time to sh!t anywhere and everywhere.

Keeping chooks at home can be a problem with neighbours cats about.

If a local cat took my wife/kids chooks(and they try periodically), then I'd be setting up the tuna flavoured possum trap on my property.

Yeah, there's quite a few feral cats out there apparently. From what I understand, they get abandoned by uncaring owners etc.

I thought cats usually buried their crap? The chooks I've seen around cats hassle the furry buggers lol.

Thanks man, covered pretty much all I was about to write.

By all means call for neutering to reduce the amount of abandoned strays and feral cats, but calling for them to be gone altogether is a bit of a drastic way to counter only a small part of the problem.

But his only assertion is that they kill very few, you'd need numbers to prove its more than a few...

Why ???? There are only a few kiwi around ... cats will have an impact ... you get hung up on other people's shit ... I won't buy into Kerridge's bullshit ...

Kerridge is saying we should not get rid of cats because they ony kill a few native birds - I'm saying cats kill native birds - don't give a fuck how many - cats kill native birds, let's get rid of cats ...

What no-one is actually suggesting is how and when ... and everyoen is acting as if we go out and kill all cats tomorrow!

I suggest that we try to exterminate ALL feral cats (take quite a number of years .. they've never managed it with the deer population) and at the same time neuter ALL domestic cats so they don't breed - and outlaw any new cats from January 1, 2015.

Given the life epectancy of cats we should see the cat population start to decrease around 2030.

Is that another imported pest thriving here in ChCh I hear ???

Who killed the moa??? Human beings ???? (Haast Eagle was a result of the loss of the Moa - an indirect impact ... and by the way, did you know Haast Eagles attacked human beings?)

And yeah, we can admit a fuck up ... (bit late to correct it tho' .. not too late for kiwis and other birds if we get rid of cats and other pests)

Yeah .. If I was honest - I'm a complete Luddite ... I'd be happy to go back a few hundred years and live wthout the bullshit technology ... and live with quite a lot les human beings too (I have a list of people to exterminate ... ) .. but I think natural selection and natural stupidity would decrease the population quite quickly ...
