When I organise a group ride, I always phone ahead with the numbers and approx time of arrival...when there are 20+ landing on your doorstep looking for a feed, its only polite to let then know, you get good service ie: walk straight in and sit at the reserved tables..win/win.

Which reminds me, I need to a couple of calls this weekend.

I put a wee bet on with myself when this thread started that it would turn into a pie thread. KB is so consistent with some topics.

Mmmm. I must try that on the clubs next group ride to the west coast. We'll ring ahead to the petrol station at Haast and tell them there are 20 bikers coming through and we'll expect to order their pies and hopefully have tables ready. Naturally we'll ignore their comments about the cafe around the corner and pub across the road that serve food.

The whole point about this thread is that the lady at the small historical shop got abused for not having enough pies ready, when she wasn't expecting a large number of bikers arriving wanting to eat. This shop is not an eating establisment, it is an old style general store. There is a pub right across the road that caters to people wanting good fast food.
    Time to ride

Thread title says Group Riding and Eating Places...I put across my view on the subject, not the subject matter IE: small historic shop attendant copping a gob full (excuse the pun)

If the ''small historic shop'' is not an eating place, then perhaps the thread title should be changed to reflect that?

Thread title could read...Dont expect pies from an Op Shop.

anyone working in retail gets abused on a regular basis. I do and I don't stand for it. I refuse to serve clients who are rude, I tell them they are being rude and that I don't deserve to be treated that way when I am trying to help. I'm not in food service industry ( was for far too long tho and will not work in it again ) I work part- time as a trained consultant in a natural health store...seriously, Joe Public - and that means YOU - are a pain in the arse. The people behind the counter are just that, people, with lives and feelings and specialist knowledge that deserves respect.

Yarp, a "would you treat your Mother, Father, son, daughter etc like this" is a great way to change the tone of a conversation.
And I totally agree with your perception of Joe Public, I spent 4 years in the trenches in my own wee shop. I have a belief that I should not judge others unless I have walked in their shoes so to speak, a wee mantra which helps me stay out of prison. But. Some folk are just wasting my air & the world would be a better place without them.

She Is quite safe I assure you. I have had my own strong confident woman for the last 24 yrs. Or is it 25, shit I hope she does not read this or I am in trouble. I just find something really sexy about a woman who has much self respect and assertiveness.
