    Got caught - again

Fuck me ... here I was riding to work this morning thinking - 'Wow I have no demerit points' .... and bugger me ... I get a ticket ... 122 klicks in a 100k zone - can' argue with that - I did it ... and more ... I was a bit slow when the cop came round the corner ... I'll take the 122 klicks over the passed 140 klicks=walking territory ...

But - the cop did not appear to be turning so after a few corners, when he wasn't there - I kicked it hard (180+ klicks) just to make sure he would not find me ... when around a corner I came - straight at a second cop car waiting for me .... and then as I'm taking off my helmet a third cop pulls up ... the cop who stopped me tells me the first car is coming - he radioed to tell the others to stop me ... the cop who actually stopped me did not try for a speed reading ... (lucky, I was about 30ks over the limit there - not 22 ... would have cost me even more ...) Apparently there was a few of them because they were on the way to a drug operation ... and just happened to run across a speeding motorcycle ... two of them weren't even local - they were from Rotorua ..

The first car arrives back and the cop then proceeds to take my licence, get on the radio - etc etc .. the two others (younger cops) then tell me they both ride bikes and they would not have stopped me ... but the other cop is not that way inclined, so sorry. They comment on the bike and the tyres ("no chicken strips - you ride this hard" etc) ...

I'm amused by the good cop/bad cop routines ...

Oh well .. 20 demerit points now ($170 fine) and two years to try to get back to zero ...

Yeah .. On the way to work on my usual route ... they'd have been waiting for me tomorrow if I hadn't have stopped ... there's only two ways home (unless I go through Napier-Gisborne ... and that would make the trip to work around 8-9 hours ..)

I had a cop down this way trying to ping me for ages riding to work once, but I went a different route everyday . The only reason I finally got caught was I left my bike parked on the footpath outside a mates place, and they got my rego number, and when I did a runner, they just went and waited at home for me. Crafty buggers, fair cop though. I only got done for no license or rego.

I was coming home from Mystery Creek, after setting up for Parachute on thursday, just about at Pokeno and saw an officer coming the other way, buttoned off and proceeded at a more leisurely pace for about 5 mins, and thought.. hmm thought he'd come after me but obviously not... so went to grab a handful and saw the lights coming from a ways back so slowed a bit more and prepared to pull over, which I did as soon as it was obvious it was me (not the myriad of cars that were speeding around me).

He pinged me at 123.. but due to the glorious amounts of engine braking the ZRX has, it was 115 when he got a lock.

We had a bit of a chat, and he let me off with 80$ and some demerits. A bit fortunate because I had just passed a few cars before I had seen him, and was slowing down to sane speeds. Had he been a few seconds later, I would have probably only been doing 110 - which is what I usually sit at on the motorway (especially unfamiliar motorways where I do not know the common hidey holes etc).

Ironically, just before he caught up to me, I was passed by a guy in a 4x4 doing warp speeds... looks like he thought the officer was after him lol.

Anyway.. if you travelling between the tron and auckland, beware. He said that on weekdays there are usually at least 3 cars and 1 or 2 camera traps set up on that piece of road (and that would be how many I saw..)

Three cops, three cars, charge out rate in excess of $60/hr. The government coffers will not have benefited much from that ticket. What a waste of money.

ps, should have added that was my first speeding ticket in 10 years, and the first in 30 years on a bike... which is ironic since I rarely dont speed on a bike.

Two of them just stopped on their normal route - enjoyed a walk in the sun and a talk to a rider ... it might have been their first stop since Rotorua ... the third did turn around and use petrol and time to get back to me ...

I'd be more concerned about three cops going to one place in three cars ... not an efficent use of transport ... what ever happened to car pooling ??

Just think of it as another way to render unto Caesar Not an offering to the god of speed (Burt Munro reference) but one to the civil authority via the tax collector.

All in all apart, from the ticket, it sounds like a pleasant experience non-singular Bandit.
