hi, after wanting to get my mc license for almost 15 years i actually got around to getting it
so a little about me, i work full time as a dive instructor and currently eyeing up a bandit 250 as my first bike mainly as a commuter but also for road trips

so i now have a purchase agreement on my first bike... a 2000 Suzuki bandit 250

thank you, thank you, it was chosen over a KTM duke 200 (that was an interesting bike) and a Hyosung gt250r, it is the bike i always wanted since high school just taken about 15 years to get one

I just brought my first bike 2 weeks ago, (S40 Boulevard) but after reading the LAMS restrictions a little more carefully, if you modify the farrings, exhaust or engine you could be found (depending on the cop) to be in breach of the Power to weight ratio.

This sucks I know as I planned to upgrade my pipe as soon as I could but I am having secon thoughts on that now.

What if a motorcycle is on the list and has been modified in a way that has increased
its power-to-weight ratio?
Any motorcycle that has been modified to increase its power-to-weight ratio is no longer
LAMS-complaint and must not be ridden on a learner or restricted motorcycle licence.
What is the power-to-weight ratio?
The power-to-weight ratio is a measure of the motorcycle’s performance and is a better
indicator of performance than engine capacity alone.
How is the power-to-weight ratio calculated?
There is no need for motorcycle riders to do any calculations, as this is done by motorcycle
manufacturers. The power-to-weight ratio calculation involves the power output (kilowatts)
being divided by the tare weight of the motorcycle plus 90 kg (for rider and safety gear).
The result is then multiplied by 1000 (to convert to kW per tonne).

So basically any mods to the farrings (removing or making the smaller), Guards (same as farrings), Exhaust or engine, will change the ratio from manufactures specs, and if the cops wanted to they could bend you over and make you very uncomfortable.

Or thats how I interpret it anyway.

I've got the Duke on my current list of favorite bikes. Was wondering why you decided against it. Was it just because they are new and more expensive or did you find something with it that you didn't like?

it's a great bike for twisties and through town its light easy to handle has a huge amount of torque but no legs (manufacture spec top speed is 138) so not so good for open road was a blast to ride though

i want to add fairings to the bike (front screen) also would like to put a gsxr or cafe racer style tail on it with fatter tyres but that will have to wait
