My thoughts too at the time, too big an asset purchase to close down and hang around their neck as a liability!
Hopefully whatever the new owners do with it they will need people to run it, just hope it doesn't take them too long!
There is a new industrial park being established in the North end of the town opposite the race course, should mean a few new jobs out there surely!
The media won't mention that though, too positive for them!
Good luck Mike, whatever .
I didn't think!!! I experimented!!!
The Aussie medias take on it is that GH has saved a small Kiwi towni can see there point as if it wasnt bought by them it was all over period.Hopefully there right long term.

Heads up there the TL's, this will sort itself out and there are/will be other opportunities, keep up the optimism it shines through to those in positions of hiring etc.
Every day above ground is a good day!:
Bit of an update, both Vic and i attended interviews with the new owners of "mill" today at there request, after listening to waffle for a few minutes about how lucky we both were to be included in the very small number of people to be asked back i simply declined there offer and we left, had a ring tonight from a bloke whos both a good mate and a supervisor in the "new" version of "the mill" asking us to reconsider there offer butwhat a fucking joke, best thing as far as we are concerned was the fact the placed closed (no offense intended to those that i worked with that would like to go back)as it seems we had both become somewhat complacent, both got work and well happy, the Mrs ssems to have landed on her feet, out to the freezing works
(not somewhere she had ever even considerd working) she goes a tad wary but 1st paycheck is $850 in her hand which brings a smile, thing is that was for 5 days, this week shes done that but works tommorow morning as well at time and 1/2 and double time, but theres an off season which is a problem, thing is she gets carted off to the main office today and asked if she would like to do qc work after the 3rd chain goes off after easter giving her another 3 months work on around the same wage as shes getting currently, she asks "why are you offering me that job ive only just started working here" they reply "because you worked in the laboratory at the mill you seemed an obvious choice"
(Big thanks to the mill she thinks
Anyways goes to show you one door shuts another opens eh.Tarts even got herself a job (not big bucks but enough to pay the mortgage) for whatever off season she gets.

Good to hear a happy outcome for you both. Stopped off in Oamaru when taking daughter to Otago uni. Oamaru gets my vote as the most beautiful town in NZ by far. Loved the historical look and feel
Happiness is a means of travel, not a destination
Having lived in Waimate (Shhhhhhhh, don't tell anyone) I would take Oamaru over Timaru any day of any week.
The pub in the historic part of town had Emersons on tap when we were there, and we bought cheese from the Whitestone shop, and there were some good places for coffee and snacks.
Great town.
I thought elections were decided by angry posts on social media. - F5 Dave
Bugger me, sad news for all the staff.
The Mill was literally almost my birth place!
Mum worked there for years and her water broke on the floor while carrying me.
Hope you find something...
Theres always the foundry or freezer
