You would think that........but most manufacturers fill it in. Look at BMW 1-series and compare that to the new mini.

Basically it saves metal. Saving metal saves $. $ car = more sales.

Huh? You can't say that in the same sentence. You missed the word "can"
Type R uses more gas than a V8 when you put your foot down.
The one I drove (press car) killed 20L gas in 100km. But we had a hell of a time with it.

Yeah FWD can have good handling. But so can a shaft drive bike.......are you saying all bikes should be shaft drive because one does it well? Because I am in the firm belief that you think FWD is a good compromise to RWD or 4WD.

Expect that ratio to dramatically change for all future generations.
Have a look out the window and count the number of RWD cars................two stroke motorcycles................or any other cool thing from our past.

Anyone want to place bets as to what next cool thing we are going to lose?
    I am guessing soft-serve ice-cream.

There was something wrong with it then...
I've driven countless ones and have a fair few mates with 'em and they're exceptional on petrol. Got somewhat spirited on some open roads recently in a mate's DB8 Type R (sedan) and we almost went over 8.0L/100km
They'll drink a reasonable amount on a track, but anything will...won't it
The same mate has a manual VN SS and I can politely tell you that it uses a lot more petrol than the Integra ever can

As a drivers car, they're very hard to beat for the money

I have to confess to liking the Integra Type R. But it is not a convertible and there is nothing better, (apart from a bike, of course), in cruising with the top down on a fine day. It's like biking really, if you have to have it explained to you, you just don't get it.

The only complaint I have about any honda car I have owned is trying to source parts for them, there are so many different model variations that it can be a real headache.

I'm not trying to say that at all, what I'm trying to say is that just because a car is FWD doesn't automatically make it a poor handling shitbox. These days it's illegal to use a RWD to its potential on public roads anyway.

Which brings us back to the S2000 again Ed.
I think I could happily live with one.

Top down motoring is fab, even driving a Z3 is good on a sunny, warm day, you can ignore the horrible handling and obscene lack of power and just cruise along pretending to be a 90's Bond ('till an MX5 passes you, or a VTEC Accord, then you cry a little and carry on)

Yup! The S2000 for me and the MX5 for Mrs. Bear.

I passed and was subsequently passed by a lady in a Z3 this morning heading into town on the Northern M/way. The Z3 was a bit of a failure for BMW but the Z4 went a long way to correcting that. However only ToyBaru since have managed to recapture the essence of the MX5 in making an affordable, fun sports car. Not too powerful but handles brilliantly and looks good doing it. Only downside is it's still not a convertible.

I wouldn't buy a new MX5 though, too dear and too complex. Having said that I might change my mind if I get to drive one...

    Until 2014.........opppps I mean "I Know NOTHING!!!".

Probably won't get here anyway. Just like the Hyundai......

I still think they could have made the FT86 cheaper for NZ. Yes its cheaper than a 350z.........but so a lot of stuff.

I want Mitsi to redo the Sapporo/Colt/Starion/Challenger and Subaru to bring back the Leon.

The S2K is by far my favourite of the more affordable 4 cyl sports cars I agree on the MX5 front too, I love the way the NA series drive, no P/Steering models are my favourite, just a basic, fun little toy

Remember the S15 Silvia Spec R though? That was extremely good value, around $48k nz new I think, for a car that'd go 'round corners, up hills, look great and it was fast too. Sadly, the whole boxer 4 doesn't float my pickle in the 86/BRZ, but there's no denying they're awesome

The S15 was trialled by the Plice in the Waikato as pursuit cars. Not sure what the outcome was on that but I bet the drivers loved them!

I drove a GT86 auto and loved it! Crisp auto changed my mind about preferring the manual and it had plenty of "go".

I heard one of them got crashed? (the S15) Great car those

Haven't had the chance to drive one yet.
Interesting fact, on paper they're pretty similar to an E30 M3. Having been in one recently, I can testify 200hp can still be a giggle. It was certainly no ball of fire, but it was just excellent! Sadly, it's no gruntier, or better than my brother's Msport suspended manual E36, which is worth nothing!
