You're not alone, Renault are recreating it, but it is prohibitively expensive, new. There was a tasty one on TM a while ago!

Still prefer the shape of the old A110 to the new, but would not say no if someone threw me the keys.

Yes,I doubt the haters have had any experience in MX5s. I personally find their build quality a bit cheap in places and lacking the quality of say an sw20 mr2, but for a rear wheel drive sports car that is affordable, handles brillantly and is reliable, they are unbeatable IMHO. I have had 4, so I guess I must like em! They are hard to easily modify re power output and suspension really only needs good shocks and sticky tyres to be sublime.

Would love to take one for a spin down through the catlins at the moment, with the weather we have been getting. That would be fun, as long as scummy and mates were north of the clutha.

This thread is still not selling me an mx5.

I think I'll stick to playing in the wife's peugeot 306 convertible, about the same hp, drives as well as a flexing convertible body can, still usable with 4 seats, fully automatic soft top that puts its self away at the press of a button.

Not to mention that it's the same age as ed's car, with less than half the k's, and cost me a smidge more than 1/4 of what he's asking.

    Now where are the lesbians.....
Riding cheap crappy old bikes badly since 1987

Prob get the tail out better in the wet too...
They're a bit of a giggle when you're being silly (not that I would be one of those people who seems to find lift off over steer in a Pug a very nice thing)
A mate has a 306 GTi, fun little thing and owed him bugger all, apart from the snapped cambelts (plural)

If you're there for the next one you'll se the bro-in-law doing it in an 86.

Was reading an article about them when they were released over there, and one comment from the OE rep stood out like dogs balls. Asked if there were any plans to offer them with turbos he said: "Toyota have no plans to make the 86 anything other than naturally asperated for the current 2 year build cycle." He then apparently got all coy and wouldn't elaborate. So while I think they've hit the nail firmly on the head with the current spec' I wouldn't be astonished to learn that 2015 revealed a blown 86.

Another story from the same article suggested that Toyota, (who own a controling interest in Subaru's parent co) approached Subaru and asked them to develop the boxer engine for a new rear wheel drive car. Subaru said: No, we don't do that class of engine, neither NA or RWD. Mr Toyota simply replied: "You do now."

Yeah, but as you say, they are so much fun standard I wouldn't need to upgrade the power by much. I've spent most of my life driving vehicles of, shall we say, "modest power" that I get a kick out of getting the very best out of them.
