    Camera vans

I read here a while ago that the cops had purchased some (expensive) Toyota vans to replace the Mitsi camera vans .... today I saw a black Hyundai van (see photo) ... very hard to pick up as it looks like a old import van !! ... it was using the new "K" band camera

Nah, these are the vans now. You're right that they're Hyundai and use K band

They also use old backpacker vans on the West Coast (South Island) there is a ropey looking white one in Westport... good reason to stick to the speed limits

Why do we allow them to use mufti-vehicles ?

Surely they would do a better job as safety measures if they were very clearly marked

As they are in other countries...

Its not quite entrapment - but it does add to the evidence of revenue gathering

It realy is a shame to see the Boys in Blue reduced to tax collector status

Set it on fire or spray FTP on the side. Cops love file transfer protocol.

Result: Traffic suddenly slowed on approach (northbound) to the BP Autobahn. Doing 100kph happily then crawling at 50kph.

Got past the van parked up, back to 90-100kph.

Can they please ticket morons slowing to half speed past the vans?

I almost dumped my old toyota in the manakau harbour one night cause I ripped a massive handbrake slide past the camera but then I couldn't get it to release. Was one of those decisions that you immediately regret making

Its almost like people think they get police brownie points for each km they do under the speed limit past cameras...

It's cos one person sees the van and brakes to 95, the person behind them brakes to 90 to allow space for further braking if required, and so on and so forth with a queue of traffic that passes that point at a ridiculously low speed and then immediately, and sometimes seemingly magically, the traffic goes back to normal speed
